You are reaping the benefit of an extended education and an entrepreneurial mind. Not at her majesty's pleasure.
I'm as far from an expert as youcan get. Have swapped quite a few fromt and back ends around and larned pretty quickly that the mountings for the swingarm and the rear shock have to be right or its time, hassle and cost to make it fit (I have to pay others). You can probably pick up a whole 848 front end for £400
frames a new one based on a featherbed design. i have a friend who works at metisse in oxford. hence using the duke frame for geometry then take the jigged parts to them for a bending session.i'm a TIG welder by trade so jioning tubes is the easy bit.
again so i copy the frame geo, mounting points, etc to get it correct with no guess work involved. as for £400 i'll take a set if you can get it.....
theres loads of bits but i want the whole thing! no brakes, bolts, wheels, yokes, clip ons, m/c's, etc etc etc. the costs soon build up.
Sorry mate was just trying to help, was thinking if you could get the bits seperate cheaply you might only blow 1k of your money leaving a bit over to spend elsewhere
You wont get many with ohlins suspension under 4k, you may get a race cat c 848. Have you thought about a 675 triumph? Seem to be cheap as chips even the R with ohlins
Just seen this and it might be right up your street not sure about price though says £500 but its a complete bike DUCATI STREETFIGHTER 1098S STREETFIGHTER 848 BREAKING 1198 | eBay
thankyou for the help...i've been after the parts for 6 months...was hoping i could get a dropped bike on this forum tbh...but the parts are more expensive than i had bargained for. so a while bike works better for me, i can ride it...if i find the parts i can sell the bike, if i ike the bike i could change tack and mothball the norton engine for my son
Just one more thought for you, have you thought about contacting insurance companies to see if they have anything? I had a KTM Duke 2, written off, Insurance wrote it off and offered 4k - £400 if I wanted bike back. They tend to only charge 10% of bike value, if you know anyone in the game might well be worth tapping them up.
no but i can ask around. use to have an account at copart, i'll see what they got. Aprilia rsv-r look good value
at 10% of the write of value even a Desmo is good value. And you can make loads of bucks on breaking it, could fund your whole project and more.
can't see anyone giving me a deal like that...i'm luck but not that lucky....plus my mate either ride moto x or victories!
Well good luck whichever way you go but hopefully now you have a couple more idea's to try. Might even be worth asking at dealers as they will appraise a write off for insurance company.
