£6k - 7.5k Budget... What To Buy??

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Ben Mallinson, Feb 18, 2018.

  1. Why would they be cheap? Can't anyone else value them as you would if you were selling?

  5. Yep, don't forget to include your name as it appears on the card, Pin number, the long card number, expiry date, issue number, last 3 digits and numbers from your postcode... That should about cover most circumstances.

Nice of you to offer to pay for the next addition El T :upyeah:

I could use my money to buy a scrambler for Helen then o_O

  6. If part of your aim is return on investment then look at a decent low mileage base 1098 Streetfighter - the SFS's are pushing north of £15k in Germany as shown on a thread on here last week. The base models are as low as they are going and have turned - you should still find a low mileage one for your budget. Early 916 would be a sure bet too, already gone up but will continue to rise. Must be the 916 with old graphics for maximum return although a 94 model will be over budget now.
A decent late 999S Mono (05/06 model) would be a good bet too.
Don't buy anything that is going to be a lower price in 5 years time if you want both pleasure and investment :)

Get one of these if you can. I bought this last year and I guarantee it's doubled in value. I've no idea what I paid for it though but it wasn't much I'm sure!

  10. Seems you have a good understanding of what sort of criteria I'm basing the search around. Fun Investment sums this up quite nicely I guess. I don't really want to buy anything which has a few years worth of depreciation to go through yet or anything which I have to worry about putting a few miles on over the next few years...

I'm in no rush, the Tricolore will be 'in service' this year which take the pressure off... Demand will be greater over the warmer months though so it's going to be easier to find something for the right money over the next month or so and at the tail end of the year.

May drop you a PM or two as the search goes on :upyeah:

    Cheers @Robarano

I had spotted that one, mileage was the first thing that stopped me picking the phone up initially on this one... I had a <10k mileage criteria preferably but it's not a hard line criteria.

Missed a nice white 1098SF with circa 7.5k on it a couple of weeks back too : unamused:

Whats peoples thoughts on mileage since I ideally want something we can use and rotate out of the stable? When does a Ducati become less desirable due to mileage covered?

  12. I think anything over 15k people start to question milages. Tbh I don't know why, as long as the bikes been looked after I personally wouldn't see it being a problem. My gsxr is coming up to 30k now and still runs like a dream.

  13. I think it's more down to condition and history than mileage alone. Mileage would have a bearing on my decision, but the 1st 2 criteria are the most important. I once bought a GSXR1100 with 22,000 miles showing and it looked brand new. Plenty of high res pics and a good description if you are looking at bikes remotley.

I think 1st of all, decide what you want and then watch the market.

  14. It's a funny one isn't it the old mileage debate...

Service history and overall condition are the most important factors for a bike I want to run on the road, however when also trying to take residual value's in to account, mileage and the wider audience's questioning/perception of what is classed to be 'high/low mileage' it makes the process of finding a happy medium much harder...

It also seems that mileage becomes less of a consideration (within reason) when bikes mature and start getting viewed as 'classic' bikes though... I guess this is down to the average annual mileage reducing over time and 20+ year old bikes having 20/25/30k miles on them is seen as more reasonable for the bikes age so long as the history is well documented and the service history back's up the bike's life story.

  15. On residuals and mileage. It works both ways, and you'll pay less in the 1st place. I wouldn't get hung up over it.

    Condition, condition, condition. :)

  16. Agree, I'm just trying not to narrow the search criteria too much and keep a couple of potential models to consider...

Seems like an ideal opportunity to discuss the mileage aspect which will inevitable come in to consideration watching the market and considering available bikes ;)

  17. Back in 2011, I sold a ZZR14 to get the new 2012 model, and my then 2 year old one had 3700 miles on it and was mint throughout. A guy turned up, had a good look round it, loved the bike and said "I would have had it if the mileage was not that high" I was completely stunned and just kinda burst out laughing, he said he was after a sub 2000 miler ??
