1098 1098 Hates Me (normally My Wife's Job)

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Nervy, Feb 27, 2016.

  1. I bought it 4 years ago and left it at my best mates one month later (we lived 100 metres away from each other) as he saw it and fell in love with it and said he was going to buy it.

He never paid me but it was fine sitting there safe and warm, so I left it there then took it back a few months ago when I had a bit of time to get it out on track.

  2. Farmer's daughter?

  3. No, only what's listed chum.

  4. Perhaps later? I'm doing this just now.

  5. Is that a full ti system? it looks like a SS one with Ti end cans

  6. I was told it was Ti. How can I tell, please? My last '98 had exactly the same full system and it looked exactly the same as this to me.

  7. As far as I know, only the 1098R/1198 LV Corsa system was full ti and had a triangular head shield. You had to weld 848/1098 exh flanges on the Corsa system, or file the flange holes out to fit.

Plus, the exhaust material looks like ss not ti.

  8. Interesting stuff, thank you. I've just had a quick look and can find links to an LV full Ti system on google for the 1098 that- to me- looks exactly the same as mine. And sitting here looking at it now it looks very much like Ti to me, especially when comparing it with the colouration/ finish etc of the full Ti Akra system of the bike sitting next to it. But I'm happy to be wrong. I'm used to it.

  9. Ah, ok.
Maybe I have only seen the Corsa systems for the later bikes.

    Here is a Corsa system.

  10. I've had the first ten time wasting calls today, all of them offering sub 4K, one of whom called me an idiot when I said no. I asked him to find another standard 1098 with even close to the same mileage as mine but he declined.

  11. The bike should sell quickly with that spec.

If you do have a lower price in mind, add up what you could get if you parted it out. I bet you can get more that way.

  14. He is on hols for a month...

  15. I'm afraid I haven't the time or the heart to break it up. And that only means more idiots, too. There's been a LOT of idiots today.

Are those forks really only worth 1500 quid? Jeez. That's quite the depreciation.

  16. They look like they are worth more than £1500 to me.
What exactly are they? WSB factory jobbies?

  17. Yes. That's exactly what they are.

Have I priced this bike wrong? I really thought I'd have had more interest by now.

  18. There was a bike similar to yours, not quite as blinded up , for sale for some time on eBay before. If it did sell it took a long while to shift and that was after several price reductions.

To me, a bike is worth two things. What it is worth to the owner, and if he is selling then what is worth to the highest bidder. The seller can see hehas spent thousands to get it as he wants but to the next owner he can compare to other bikes he is looking at. If your comparing this to ... a zx10 for example the zx will be cheaper to run I think. The fear of a bike like the 1098 is they can be troublesome and I think we may agree to that.
I'd love it but I've just bought a hyper !

  19. Understood. Thank you.

Now, just enjoy this ham burger and this delicious milk.

Hmm? Plane? No. We're not going getting on a plane. Why would you think that?

  20. Just to round this out, the bike is now sold to an excellent chap named Tom. Hopefully he'll join up here, too.

Thanks to everybody for all of your time and patience helping me diagnose the silly running issue- even the people at Dyno Jet, who didn't owe me anything as the PC3 was long out of warranty were amazing- I'm really, really grateful.

It's so nice that there's still a corner of the Internet about bikes that isn't just idiots getting angry with each other about who likes Stoner more. Obviously, we're still idiots, it's just that we have sub-forums too, so we can specialise our idiocy.

Thanks again everyone. You all rock harder than- let's say- basalt.
