Sorry for the late arrival in this, but I've a totally standard 1198. I'm more than happy to take any pictures you'd like (at the weekend, I work away), then email them on to you. Let me know if this would help.
Well I thought all was good with the lights, but for some weird reason the right side indicator is no longer working, bulb is fine, as if I wire it the other way round it works, or if I wore it along with the working left indicator they both work... Got no idea why it's stopped... Was hoping to get Mot'd @ the wknd ... Any ideas of where I should be looking
Broken wire in the loom somewhere by the sounds of it. Start with the simple stuff first ie double check the fuse box etc
Thanks pal. Will give that a go tonight 1st.. Also (not sure if it's related) when I put on the left indicator I don't hear no noise, but when I put on the left I hear like a relay sound it something like that. Still indicator is not working but getting a buzzing sound...
Ummm.. Stopped working again, I think it must be a bad earth. As when I unbolt my right exhaust can it works, as soon as I start to tighten the bolt that holds the can bracket in place it stops working & starts to spark if the right indicator is on... No issue with the left side whatsoever.... Very strange but thats what's happening....
Very much sounds like a loose connection somewhere then. If you can, rig up a temporary wire from the relay to the indicator. If that works and continues to work you know the problem is somewhere inside the loom. Be systematic and you should find the fault fairly easily. Look at me giving advice on this....Christ if this was my bike it be up at the dealers crying like a little bitch :Arghh:
Thanks again pal. Will have a look before Sat as I'm taking her for an MOT then... I like a challenge so try to stay away for dealers... Only way I learn about my bike I guess..
As Matt says Mr Jangers it does sound like a loose connection up in that heatshield... Are all the wires tucked well away?
Jangol Do you have the proper crimping tools for the bullets? There are different types for insulated and bare terminals. I'm talking about the big one operation ratchet type or similar. If you don't I'd solder them in position or use posilocks (the small ones) For indicators 0.5mm^2 thinwall cable should more than be adequate. Mind and sleeve them and use plenty cable ties to tidy it. It is easy to nip the cables in the tail.................go on ask me how I know :Wideyed: John
+1 on the soldering.... ALL of my leccy work now involves the iron & a heatshrink to protect.... Any part of the wire that needs a tie also gets the fabric tape around it beforehand in case it rubs... Bike fires aint fun... Ask me how I know
Thanks for the advice.. I fitted blue bullets, which prior to fixing back the right can do the job... may have to pass it onto my local garage (not a Ducati Dealer), but knows he's Ducati's & trust him... Just so strange that as soon as I fit the right side can it stops working, as mentioned fitting the bolt back causes sparks as I screw into the metal can & plate hanger.... Obviously that's a bad thing, just need to fix it lol
Sparks??? That does not sound like an earth problem.... If you are sending it to a garage then they'll sort it (I hope) but if you were having a go yourself I'd be stripping it all down & checking that a wire isn't being squished to the point of pos touching earth.. Thats what it sounds like.
