I decided to order the motul 300v and a k&n oil filter in the end. I think it was £56 delivered from m&p via ebay.
I am a little worried as I ordered it yesterday morning and was showing Friday delivery but has yet to be despatched. Its looking fine for Saturday so I want to get my act together and drop the oil and get to the MOT bay.
Oil schmoil...any good quality 10W-40 will do. But make sure you top up with the brand thats already in there. Which for me is Shell. (i think)
Why is it more important to top up with the same brand than it is to research how and why a premium oil might justify a higher price than a " just about meets the spec" synthetic oil ?
My guess is a premium oil would only benefit someone who really canes their bike on a trackday or as a racer. For the vast majority of us who just ride normally on the road and do not stress our motors, a good quality oil is fine. If you stress your motor regularly and trackday a lot, then the best premium oil money could buy would be appropriate. I dont. I just use a good quality oil. Have done for 30yrs with no issues. Now if I had a trackday tool I would shove the best goddamn oil money could buy in it and change it after every trackday. I prefer not to mix differing oils. I have no idea why, it just makes sense to me.
Agreed Bootsam. People get awfully worked up about oil. A good quality synthetic of the correct grade from a reputable manufacturer will be fine. (Cue tales of horror about friends of friends who blew their engines to pieces after scripmping and buying "interior" synthetic )
