1098 1098r Alloy Fuel Tank

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Robarano, Oct 29, 2017.

  1. WOW , that really does look stunning.
How did you find an ali tank or did you have it made up yourself. That really does set the bike off.

  2. I had a search on eBay sending me e-mails every time one was listed. I missed out on 2 SP tanks previously as I had dallied about while others pounced. When this came up, I just clicked the "But it now" option within 10mins of receiving a mail. I guess I was lucky that it was purchased by a guy brand new and he never got round to using it, it's a blank canvas and not one from a used bike with the design already painted on. :upyeah:

  3. That looks flipping awesome! Really does go well together!! Well done mate! and stunning bike also!

Also I know what you mean about those bits of cheese holding the fuel flange on the fuel tank. I went to swap my tanks over last week and found three of the bolts rounded off. I've ordered new original bolts, but now thinking of changing them for a decent set like yours, where did you get yours from?

  4. That look great :upyeah:

I need to get mine painted this winter also; most likely in the style of the SP, bit I really like yours.

Have you adjusted the thermister height to take account of the increased fuel capacity? :bucktooth:

  5. Thanks :upyeah:

eBay is your friend with the bolts. It's a worthwhile mod for sure. You need M5x16mm

  6. Wot, eh, errr..............no. o_O

  7. It looks like its on a dipstick, which is held in place by a screw. I'm guessing the dipstick is height adjustable but have only seen a photo.

Otherwise, the low fuel light will still come on as before, well it does on mine; not a biggy I suppose.

I plan to look at it when I remove the pump over winter.

  8. These bikes don't tell you how much fuel is in the tank, they just tell you when you are getting low - which should be the same.

  9. Talking of dipsticks , what bikes do these ali tanks come off as standard ?

  10. I know, but in practice it still reads low after covering the same miles as before, even though it now has lots of fuel left in the tank.

I'm only guessing that the thermister needs to be submerged in fuel (or not) to operate the low fuel light.

  12. By the way, that bolt size I quoted is for the 848 / 1098 / 1198. I have no idea about the Panigale, you may want to check. :upyeah:

  13. I think you may be correct. :)

  14. Yep this is on my 1098R so its the right size! Got a higher capacity fuel tank which I'm not too fond of, so switching it back to the original tank!

  17. Also Rob have you ridden the bike with the larger tank yet? Did it feel much different?

I've just taken mine off and will probably sell it cos I didn't get on with it. Felt like I was having to hug round it lol. Prefer the original tank feel. But obviously less mileage from the tank. Plus yours look amazing, whereas mine is a standard red FuelCel one.

  18. Shhhhhhhhhhhh !

Im watching and waiting on that .
    :)
