So although the dyno shootout that I had with a few mates saw my 1098R as the victor, I was not entirely happy. Why? The bike was fueling poorly throughout (too rich), and it was very lumpy and too edgy in how it got to the top end. Something was not right. So I decided to seek the advice and expertise of Chris at CJS who I felt could diagnose my bike (new to them) objectively. Chris corrected a number of MotoRapido mapping errors and improved them. He also balanced the throttle bodies as MR had not done these. After the 100+ miles on the return journey home, the bike is completely transformed. It is almost V4 like in the smoothness at higher RPMs, and the on-demand thrust in any gear is ace. There is NO hesitancy, far less edginess, and greater linearity - whilst running cooler too. Greater pull everywhere and greater user-friendliness to use the increased power/torque available. The dynoplot below tells the story of before (MotoRapido) vs after (CJS). She made the magic Ton in torque - 102 ft lbs peak, but with 80ftlbs from just 4k rpm, 90ftlbs at 7k rpm, and 100+ftlbs between 8-10k rpm. Horsepower gains are +10bhp across almost the entire curve. c.194bhp peak at the wheel. My bike is now how it should have been from the very beginning! Credit where credit is due - Chris has done a top job
Looking good! Just got myself a 1098R with 70mm full system...only had it 3 weeks but notice that it smells a bit of fuel and the idle is very high - around 1600rpm so reckon it needs a bit of love in the fuelling department! Did CJS remap the Ecu or was the improvement done by tweaking the fuelling etc? How much did it cost if you don't mind me asking? R
Prob best to call CJS for a price as it may depend on how long he takes. To remap a bike IS to remap the fueling (quantity of air vs fuel per detonation), and the ignition timing. 1600rpm idle is about right imho for the R - you can idle lower, but then again it's not a bike for idling! At idle, as long as the AFR is around the 13 mark. The 70mm system eliminates the cat so it isn't unusual for it to smell rich.
