Reminds me of when my GSXR750H let go at Bodmin moor bypass. Had been moving on a bit and took an off ramp as needed fuel. As soon as I was on the ramp the engine locked solid. Skidded all the way up to the roundabout; looked down and left leg/bike covered in oil Had just been serviced at local Suzuki dealer too. You never forget your first imploded engine. Glad op is ok
Bloody hell. At least there’s no doubt about that. I’ve had it too, and like you say, pulling like a train then bang… Project time! Upgrade time!
Was this a No Limits TD? I only ask as they always seem to make derogatory references to exploding Ducatis in their track day briefings. To the point now where I never put my Ducati leathers on for their briefings.
Yes it was a No Limits TD , I felt bad for delaying things while they cleaned up the oil but shit happens I guess
Nothing to feel bad about mate. Not like you’ve skittled the thing in session one lap one turn one like half the bellends on trackdays these days
FE make disparaging remarks too. Well, they did at Almeria. 2 Hondas blew up, 1 suzuki and a kwak. All Ducati's present, were ok.
Just a bit of banter really. I think out of all manufactures by far the majority I’ve seen blow up have been Yamahas
I used to love those briefings where that chap would slag off various makes for breaking down - it was usually Duca’is. Had me in stitches.
glad nothing other than the motor needs work i guess the rebuild option would be a bit of a mare ... the 1199 i bought with a broken motor was lucky not as bad and was fluid tight.. but still the vertical piston had hit the exhaust halves and destroyed the valve seats, and most of the motor was damaged beyond repair would be interesting once you have found some peace to see what the root cause of the failure was and if the Rods are ok.. best of luck with the repair
Well this has got me quite worried. I've got a 6500-mile 1199S that runs great--for now! A buddy across town just had his 1199 engine let go--he suspects piston ring failure where oil entered the cylinder and wreaked havoc. Are these 1199s prone to failure, more than, say, the 1299 or V4 line? Yikes---
