1199 Superleggera Rr - Project 1201 Koen

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by mygreenalien, Dec 16, 2013.

  1. I'm being kind to be cruel and haven't even started being horrible yet.

  2. Question regarding small grey tank in nose cone - it's part of the new pressurised cooling system.

Guys im not qualified to talk about dyno work and the sciences behind it. I trust MR. I believe a specific FB page is being done and the dyno work will be explained there.

What I will say is we all know the quoted figures for the SL engine. So if you strip that down, super finish everything, place single ring pistons, rebalance crank, and re-port and Gas flow to BSB spec, it does not take much to realise it's going to make more power than the standard SL engine! It was dynoed on same one as Koens and made circa + 15hp more - I say circa because they could not get enough ram air into her. I've said before the power outputs were bang on what MR thought it would be - and this with reduced figures due to ram air - so I am more than happy. We are already taking a high performance engine so there is only so much you can do before it becomes a maintenance nightmare. The torque of the engine is significant and the way it spins up - even at gentle first day track outing is impressive. The fact I could bumble around in 3rd and 5th and still be that fast is evident of how great it's gonna be. I can't fully qualify this until I have truly ridden in anger though - 21 Nov. I feel the DWC will be intervening a lot!!! The brilliance though is being able to use the thing - what is power without control? So Wilfs expertise in mapping etc just sheer class :upyeah::upyeah:.

To answer how it compares to the R - again until ridden at full pace cannot answer fully. The handling and feel from the bike is hugely impressive. The R was an impressive bike in its own right. I feel the magnesium frame makes a big difference in transferring feel and this with the suspension and triple clamps add finesse. Married to the brakes and slicks and it's improved further. It's lightness helps hugely. I was concerned the power weight balance may have overdone it but it just feels perfect - great power, light weight but useable - so target achieved.

The bike behaved great - I was able to ride around the track focussing on lines and not worrying about the bike - which is perfect for me. I left feeling once properly dialled in it will be some weapon but not afraid to use.

Roll on the next track day!

  3. Hi Carl, firstly thanks for your comments above. That gives me some food for thought and the feedback I was looking for. :upyeah: ;)

Secondly, apologies if I "hi-jacked" the thread somewhat.

  4. See, all the pain for nothing

    Nice result, looks fab... :)

  5. Only trouble with all this is, what on Earth are you going to ride on the road now? Everything else is going to feel as limp as a wet sock in comparison. Kawasaki H2 on order?

  6. He can ride the SL on the road? :) The H2 is restricted to 200PS anyway - or did you mean the H2R which I don't think is Homologated for the road anyway. Or he could get a 2015 R1 for a run around if needed...

  7. I think I'd give up trying and buy something utterly different. Like a scooter.

    MICK..

  8. Ducati Scrambler.

  9. :Hilarious:

  10. Shouldn't think it'll be an R1. After this marathon I'd have had enough of seeing my bike in bits on the bench. The road-legal H2 is pretty asthmatic at 200 BHP, admittedly, but with the supercharger it'll have a top end like nothing else on the road and for a Japanese bike its almost fit to look at in daylight.
The real danger at this landmark stage in a man's biking career is loosing all reason and going out and buying a Hardly Ableton. Many a good man has fallen in this way. Be strong Carl, stick to the scrambler and no tassles.

  18. Does look like it but it seemed a little bit wrong in shape - but what's the proper car hiding under cover?

  19. This car - what is it - it's a little bit 962 shaped but looks too small...
