1199 1199 Test Ride Today - Snatchy Throttle ?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Fastmonkey, Jun 16, 2014.

  1. I think the forks are Marzochi on the standard, the shock is Sachs (2012 models anyway) and there have been issues with the forks per the 1199 Panigale forum. Having said that, perhaps the best option is to buy the base and upgrade the suspension.

  2. Exactly the route I'll be going down. The STK1000 boys don't use the electronic Ohlins suspension. Also you don't find the leccy Ohlins on the Superleggera. A decent cartridge kit for the front with a decant shock will see you right :)

  3. The electronic bit is irrelevant, it is just a stepping motor on Ohlins suspension. If I was going again, I would possibly (although knowing me, perhaps not) buy the base, stick the TTX etc Ohlins stuff on, plus a little extra carbon and I would have pretty much the same bike as my S but for a little less money.

  4. It's funny really, was thinking about upgrading maybe next year to an 'S' model. However over the last week or so, iv been thinking about the option of sticking some decent suspension (KTech) and maybe some carbon wheels on my base model. Will be just as good, if not better than the 'S' IMHO

Iv used KTech cart kits and rear shocks over the years on circuit and really rate their products. So much so I'd probably choose them over Ohlins :)

  5. Fastmonkey, this is my first ever post so be gentle with me. I've owned a base 1199 for a year now after having many different bikes over the past 30 years (gulp) including ktm, suzuki and ducati twins. I personally find the fuelling and throttle response very smooth with the std exhaust, I'm sure it's probably just a case of riding the bike more and getting used to it. I couldn't get the standard suspension dialled into my satisfaction and ended up ultimately buying FGRT 203 forks and ohlins non electronic shock with the appropriate spring rates. I also ended up getting the adjustable ohlins steering damper. I am now very happy with the suspension after spending time getting it dialled in and the damper is a big improvement over std. Shame irt took the extra money to get where I wanted to be given the bike was already over £16k.
    Hope this helps.

  7. I had mine custom mapped and the fuelling is perfect.

I know the argument is you shouldn't have to but a few hundred quid is small fry compared to the cost of the bike and it made a massive difference. Zero surging, nice and smooth and no dips in the 4 - 5k rev range.

  15. @Speedmouse - Thanks for the reply, interesting you changed all the suspension out.

Sounds like the pipes and a custom map sorts the issue, @SimonT @SissyMc7 where did you get your maps done ?

  16. The way forward seems to be buy std, junk suspension and fit decent stuff
