1199 1199 To V4

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by JAM35, Feb 6, 2018.

  1. Just thought I would get an insurance quote to ‘put me off thinking of the swap’. For the base v4 would be £620 with a tracker fitted. £700 without. Would not cover commuting so only social domestic and pleasure. Well that’s just muddied the water.

  2. I rode the V4S and 1299S back to back with a friend here in the UAE. He’s usually a lot quicker than me on the track but couldn’t get near me when I was on the V4 and he on the 1299.

For me the V4 gave a lot more confidence to hustle the bike and give it some stick. Yes I want a Superbike to be a rush, but the 1299 feels actually malevolent in my hands - waaaay more so than my 1098R.

I’m not sure I can bring myself to get rid of the 1098, and I’m not sure I can convince the wife that having both is an option... but I really want a V4!

  5. I traded my 1199s for a V4 last week. Delivery around May. Can't compare though as I bought the 1199s just before winter and parked it in my living room over the winter. Walked into a dealership and the first look on the V4...I just knew I had to order it...it looks so mean and compact...you can sense it is something really special! When they turned on the lights on the V4 for a demo...man, this is one of the most overlooked spectacular features of the V4 as I don't read much about it, but the open seat cover/rear makes you look through the bike from the front, and with the lights on it looks spectaculair. Ater having read all the Journos go wild on how good this bike really is...this is the most brutal new bikes in years...go get one!

  6. I looks like 2 more weeks until they get delivery of the 1st V4's out here (at least a demo bike) Cant wait to ride it but I know it will make the wait for mine even worse if that's even possible.

  7. And tootle around at max 70 mph on uk roads but usually it’s 60... just not sure what the point of ever more powerful hyper bikes is, think the Europeans got it years ago with Big trailies etc

  8. I am not cean on letting my life depend on electronics... my 998s Final Edition does what it must and 100% controled by myself. I wonder what happens if the electroncs on the suspension fails. It is like flying a plain.. verry safe bud it doesnt feel good becous no control..

  9. At least for 2 years...then we'll get the bored out V4 1190cc !!!

  10. Erm, still less than half the size even then

  11. Dropped the Hyper in for a service today and had a good look at the V4. It might grow on me but I really didn't take to the tank and the plastic between the tank and the fairing.

  12. get the bloody angle grinder on it then if that makes you Happy:p

  13. Good points. Wonder what a V4 would be like with just the rider "in control". At the recent track launch, did any of the "track-god journos" try it with all the electronics turned off???

  14. Don’t think anyone would be faster with the electronics turned off. They are now w so good they don’t intervene in fast riding.

  15. Agreed, doubt they'd be faster - ! suspect they'd be slower...

  16. They’d probably have all the setting turned down to 1 and have the abs off that’s the usual scenario

  17. Had a 1299 and sold it Mainly on the basis of in my position too much money to throw down a track if that incident ever occurred, IMO the 1299 had many qualities over the 1199 but both awesome machines, anyway took a V4s out today and was absolutely blown away i can’t believe how things keep moving forward technology etc
The bike was so planted in corners and effortless to ride and the engine just pulls like well like oh I’m still not even past 12000rpm and it still wants to go. I really didn’t think that there would be such a leap from the 1299 but what a machine. Definitely take one for a spirited spin on a nice day

  18. So popped in to snells today. A V4 is available but they also had a lovely 13 plate 1199 r. I seem to remember somebody posting their list of the best 1199r’s by year order. Is this a good year bike. Off to the mcn bike show tomorrow to check out V4’s

  19. I thought it was the panigale R that was the one to have not the 1199r?
