  2. Matt

I saved for it by not purchasing anymore bling from you.
    999r carbon seatpost
    sbk evo clutch
    hpk brakes etc

Giving all that up and shopping at Primark pays dividends.

  3. Ok, we've been bashing the SL for a while now and been heralding the Desmo into Ducati greatness...

as to the desmo. Something extremely special indeed. but: 8K for an exhaust? already forgotten i suppose. and that was 5 years ago.. Anyone tried to buy some parts lately? and the percentage of dustcollectors amongst the DESMO's ? must be in the 90%-ies.
no? and how many actually made the 180bhp everybody would be happy with if still a liong way from the 200 claimed?

As i was on the way back from Mugello, i only could see the specs yesternight. and had all day pondering on them... just to having to conlcude that that bike is going to be special. All be it overpriced. 64K € is way over the 52K it should have been as a logical step up from the Bayliss. And compared to the bayliss, this is way much trick.. its the trickest R they ever made...

the R should have been the SPS, and the SL the R.... at 52K it would have been a nobrainer.. i you want what it gives you.

if i look at what i did to the R, still want to do to the R next year and then insist on having the FGRS and brembo's , i'll be not far off where the SL and some FGR's would take me..
I think i still prefer mine, but if i would be looking for a bike with those specs today, i think i would go for it. I would have missed to see the bike grow and develop a awful lot, so i'm not regretting not having waited a year one bit.

And still , we could be very surprised on the feedback from some who rode it hard... again, a cumulation of small things can make a great difference. Akra giving more midrange ( major source of pani moan), an engine that revs even faster ( crank and psitons) and perhaps spits out 10bhp more at the wheel ( 190+ ??) carrying 8kgs less with roadlights still on. and some electronics of the next gen ( Wheelie + abs + DTC)... the brakes have been upgraded with the T-Brembo disks, so even better bite...

there is talk of diffferent crankcase mor diffferent flex.. so if they get this on right as well...

and again: as to WSBK, that bike did not get any attention or development at all.. that 's why Batta openly defied Gobmeyer and especially disliked the man in charge of the wsbk effort. And threatened to dump Ducati.. imagine... now with Dall igna in, an awfull lot will change. including perhaps that Alstare will stay. We can't deny that since there as the season worsened, they actyally got going on the pani and now some results do show...

so let's wait a bit before we slag it... :)

JUST READ THE UNLOCKED SPECS : for those wanting one : GET ONE... this is something else.... grrrr...

  4. I get the impression that if you bought a Desmosedici, you would need the same sort of money again to run one.

  5. I'm not slagging it, I was very close to ordering one.

The bike will be special especially the detail, however I did not get on with the 1199 last year and this was my reasoning.

Building your own equivalent is just as much fun and you get what you want.
I loved building my 999r and 1098r to my own taste.

Both bikes when I picked up the 1199.

  6. Looking at the Project 1201 website, the frame, wheels, suspension, subframe and pistons shave 5kg off the weight of the R. There's a lot more to come yet. I'm in two minds and would like to see more information.

  7. Who said they were dear to service?

  8. add it all up and if it does what it says it does, the only bike possibly coming near will be the CRV ...

  9. Well i doubt its cheap but from what i have been told the cost of spares is particularly expensive. I've heard £5k for throttle bodies.

I'm only going by what i have heard but please correct me if i am wrong.

  10. Parts for the desmo are rediculously expensive. Service costs now that they are out of warranty will be high if anything is wrong. Despends how much you use it therefore and what goes wrong!

I wasn't slagging the Superlegerra off either BTW Kope, just saying that to me it didn't make that much sense, and that I vastly prefer yours - which is different. I hope that they get the bike to work, that's why I have kept my 1199S, but frankly, it's the least good Ducati I own, but certainly wasn't the cheapest - so that's not a great combo!

My Desmo makes 200bhp at the rear wheel on the JHP dyno. It's a missile. But you are right, the GP7 system was silly money, mainly because you had to buy all those additional carbon fairings, so now I have two sets I don't use in the garage and a set of £800 track fairings on the bike!

The Superlegerra will be pretty, and no doubt fantastic in the detail up close - but I am more of a rider than a polisher, so for me that's not going to work. I largely take the view that it is all about the experience, and you don't get that experience with the bike standing still. You get it by getting it dirty and wearing stuff out. An occassional clean doesn't go amiss, but isn't to be used as substitute time for riding!

I hope the owners love them and that they are special. But my existing Panigale often behaves like it's special needs, so I won't be paying over twice as much for my next one!

  11. Being honest, I think I'd rather have the Honda V4 if I was wealthy enough to even consider purchasing.

its like I've already said, I bet the SL will be great, but to me its simply not worth the money although I'm sure it is in parts, but surely that's half the fun?

People such as yourself can already go heavily in to updating the current 1199 to such an extent you'll be splitting hairs between them (yours vs an off the shelf SL)

Again if its about a having a highly specc'd 1199 then I'd rather go the route you are and do it myself and no doubt for similar money or less. It must be so much more satisfying than simply buying a 'pre-tricked' version off the shelf.

i like the look of the panigales, I'd happily have one if money allowed but I'd still like to change bits n bobs.

The Honda V4 is derived from Motogp tech, race winning top of the pile tech, nothing better in the world. You can't make one from something else as it doesn't exist, that's why it's more exotic and exciting like the Desmo.

Now I know it's not a the RC213v but I believe most of the tech is filtered down from the 'customer bike', so at the rumoured £70k I personally think that'd be the one to go for.

  12. sorry guys, didn't mean to misrepresent your comments...

what i'm trying to bring is that i ve seen a lot of progress on the Pani, and this one will even push this further...
we all know that next year the electronics will be on the series ...

    remember the 2003 and 2005 999?

  13. Can't wait till it's out tbh and see the spec etc, end of the day we may not "get it" but if it's 165kg wet with 220bhp at the wheel it will be some machine !

  16. Anyone know an accurate or close enough price?

I got an invite and called my dealer but he won't give me a price..

Guess i accidently put an order for one. Just need to see whether i get on the list...

As for use? I'm not keeping it as an expensive ornament. It will be on track from day 1...

  17. £55K deposit £10800

  18. And that's after you've been vetted by Ducati, then possibly accepted to say your allowed 1. ;0)

  19. hmm. Thats more than i thought by quite a margin..I expected desmo prices or around, but not quite as much as equivalent of 2 1199r. I think i might prefer a desmo in that case.

I saw quoted pricing around 47k euro lol.
