Classic upright riding position. You can see from your pics you're fairly upright which means you will use more of the tyre. But bike looks impressive in how quick it turns. Wish I could get my 848 to turn so easily
California Bike School education? Something else? I've done 3 2-day courses with BMC, but you need to speak French. Learnt loads. 2 day courses are great, because you really get the time to improve and put into practice what you are taught. I suspect there are some issues with your style, but there are plenty of people more qualified than me on here to point them out to you. I wouldn't presume.
nano seconds from disaster... did get on the side of the kerb that is full of car tire muck ... stupid stupid stupid... i was already on my way to the gravel...
Peg lift it up maybe? High kerbs plus lots of lean plus fixed pegs equals ouch! front has already well gone by then
nope, just front let go as too muck and lean.... nog scratch or pick up or unsettling... just gentle slide and off we went... How i hate that suit now... id already narrowed the bars down with 5 cm in total now ...see what that does...
Piles of lean - looks like too much. You're certainly getting your money's worth out of the tyres! Inside of outside arm (the left one here) should be touching the tank. Head should be over the righthand mirror (or where it would be if there was one). You're having no problem getting knee down as you are leant over so far, but perhaps should be leaning a little less and hanging off some more.
all true ! main focus as off now..... figuring out a way to move around better. Already put bars not as wide, have extension milled to the rearsets so to put the pegs a little more backwards, easing the legs up, am looking to raise the seat another 2 cm and got much tighter leathers and boots coming up.... and weight keeps going down... lost 20 kgs by no and should go under 90kg for the first time over 17 years... i'll stick on the strompgrips soon as well.. and then it's up to me !
tbh I still think you lost it quite a bit before that and the tyre is facing the wrong way and you arm is nearly down. Cant recommend twist of the wrist books for self teaching enough. Fundamentily changed my riding. I still carry big lean angle but with loads more speed and control. Next step is learning to square the corner off as used to riding small capaity where you need to carry high mid corner rather than slow in fast out
the funny part is that all the comments are so true.. and the I KNOW ALL of that.... now i will have to find a way of linking KNOWING and DOING... lol Simon Crafar says : fast in , fast out...
so, we're back ! bike was ready to ride and slowly all bits are trickling in to get het to her fomer glory and byond... the tank is in for repairs and a new set of L+R+head fairing is already in ... should be off to the painter in a week or so... the bike had to be ready as we had a weekend in Le Mans to go to to do some work.. planning was to have a througrough look at the setup as confidence did get shaken after the slide... but a lot was expected of aadding another tooth to up it to 42... yep, a 42 on a propiped R... should give some kick... Le mans takes some getting used to as it has some funny corners. the weirdest one being the bend before the braking area at the end of the straight, diving in a tight chicane.. it's a knee down afair in 5th for the brave.. coming from full open in 6th ... the track is wide as an airfield to lines are not too clear.. after a non inspired session we went back to F on the rear and kept it there.. there were no moments that had me owndering on something else.. the front came into his own without any changes made so we think that titghening up the rear induced some stability, especially on exit. the bike ran great but then we decided to change the rear sprocket to take it to 42 teeth... Man man man , what a change this made.. bye bye dip and welcome the strongest pull i experienced yet... the bike was trandformed. even after loosing 20kg, i'm still at 95kg all dressed so the bike has t o pull some weight... whereas there always some wait for the kick to come, this now is immediate.. there is no more lagging , just an insane pull all the way up to sixth.. even at spa i never hit sixth as it took too long... now at the end of the straight in LM, i went from 256 max to 279 (DDA) or 20kph . the bike now jumps out of corners and hang on the throttle everywhere... the only stop now being the ridicously long throttle ... it also combines beautifully with the engine braking as it rolls of ever so nicely at 200 euro's these must be the very best money spend to change you bike completely and a definiate recommendation for people doing spirited trackdays. ffor racers, they prob already carry this ... some pics showing... the 3 R's.. whoops, make that 6 R's ( 3 x1199 and 1x1098 and 2x999 as rainbikes + 999S) full garage the nica 42 and as i hadn't put the heatshield back on and the wrap smoked ferociously, we improvised by cutting a piece of stainless steel sheet and making a heatshield on the spot ... and it worked damn fine.... could ride without getting hot... now that is what i call assistance... so now planning to get the timing done... and then probably another visit to Winchester...
andy , i asked for them with high hopes but they replied they don't do crash pics... would have love to see the 'shoulder down' one ...
so just got the dyno done from the PRO pipe in comp to the EVO pipe... it shows what the pipe is set to do : being stonger midrange and it def is. the diff between 6.4 and 10k can be feslt is and is pritty lineair .. thoh , the dip below 6 is equally stongly present, but idea is not to ride it there, so it is def an improvement. it also is in SAE mode so 185 bhp at the back wheel is not too bad ... next week we get the cam timing done and curious what that will.. give ... as far as engine and bhp is concerned : we're reaching the end of where to go. the bikes got 2300 km , so timing to do this is optimal.
ok time for an update! In the meantime we rode Zolder again in good conditions and we did get below 1:50, if only by 1 100th Wheras it had thought to cut 2 seconds , we didn't. So that was like a bit disappointing... it is true that we we much more cautioous than we were before the slide in Spa... i guess it still lingers... and probalby the steady stream of repairbills coming in does not much to boost confidence... but we'll get there ! got a nice vid of it. Got a view looking at the front suspension working... when the rear tire was past it best days, and with the DTC on 1 , there was a bit of a moment with the rear stepping out very noticably... the DTC did it's job though and got the bike in line again.. can be seen clearly at 3:00 got news that the fuel tank was repaired and ready to go to the painters. i also dropped in the rest of the carbon that came in from Ilmberger. Apart from the head, i'll have more than enough spares as we could salvage the right side fairing ... the plasics will get done when they come off in september.. the wife and kids were counting down to their celebration trip to the Big Apple and i was preparing for 3 days at assen.. Till all the heavens came down when we got news that my spouses youngest brother died in Berlin at 41 from massive heartfailure whilst training for his next marathon.. with the wider family scaterred all over the world on holidays and the parents closing on eighty, we can quitly say that last week was quit a heavy ride... sad to see such love of life gone in the blink of an eye and so many lives changed forerver.. a lot of innocence was lost.. one stands and pauses, mourns and comforts. But still , even if time seems to stand still, it doesn't ... and so while in Berlin i got the call that the new suit was ready.. Riding bikes was far from my mind then.. But life is to the living. and we don't know how many yards we have on our rope... so let's live it to the full. so yesterday, I picked it up and can't wait to ride it. I really think it will help a lot to move on the bike as i now seemd glued to the seat.. some trials on the 999 in the garages seemed to bode well... so i'm very enthusiastic about it.. i already tried the daytona boots and they are absolutely comfortable and sturdy... i'll just drop the gearshifter another cm and we'll be ab fab! Heat control is a bit of an issue with the Pani and we've been looking for a way to cool it or a long time. So now we've got a Febur solution coming which will add a oil cooler to the water radiator in the front. It's a bit of a gamble and we don't know if we will put it on yet or not as the jury is still out.. the problem of the cooling seems to be that the engine wall between piston and water is wafer thin and that water instantly boils when it passes.. so adding water is only good for so long as it will heat eventually.. we're looking at other solutions ass well... We're back in the UK next week with Steve from Moto Rapido where we'll pick up a second ECU so whe can rotate between updates. We'll also spend a day on the Dyno tuning the engine over the rev range... and then drive back home in the evening... We've also got a RS 60° throttle unit on order that i hope will get in before we go to Mugello.. And before we know it, the season will be over... but let's enjoy it first !
