Steve, out of interest what are silly insurance quotes you was getting quoted I have not really considered insurance costs looking at a 749R or the 899 pan.
Umm! I have done nothing but speak to Ducati dealers all day today I was offered a 1199R with full Termi 4000m for 17.5K I just don't want to spend that kind of money or could possibly use that kind of bike for just Sunday riding
yep afraid doesn't matter what model panni you got your going to get burnt when you sell/part ex the R included
I'm assuming you are referring to the new model R and not the old one? Though I have noticed there are a few unregistered old model 1199R's that can be bought for similar money to the 1299S. The 1299 is probably a better bike but there is something about the letter R that appeals....
The new 1199R is the one bike I seriously lust after and looks to be the ultimate Panigale. I didn't think the previous 1199R really warranted the extra price as it's track performance didn't seem to back up it's credentials but the latest one does in my opinion. It's still a shed load of money that could be used to get a 1299S and a separate track bike so who knows which way I would go when it comes to it?
For what it's worth, I looked at both options too.... then decided to go for the base. Hear me out: I figured that the 1199 has more character than the 1299. The 1199 broke the mould when it came out too. I figured that I'd buy an ultra-low mileage bike and then hang on to it. I think that this is the last we'll see of underbody exhausts because of EU law (stand fast Brexit). I figured that in years to come that the S & R suspension will break and be extremely expensive to fix. All in all, I think the 1199 is the 916 of its day. That's why I'll be keeping mine for the years to come....
The MY2014 and earlier Pani 1199R was a tart's 1199s in drag. Shameful of Ducati to badge it an R imho. The MY2015 and later Panigale R (1199cc) is a cheap SuperLeg, and the real deal. The most desirable Panigale, 1199 or 1299. The SL is stupidly expensive.
Check out this guy giving it maximum beans on his Superleggera in Almeria last week. He was proper rapid, passing me plenty of times.
good choice , I bought the S and wish I had got the base it was a waste of about 5k, rode the base it was the better bike,
That doesn't make any sense, how can you think the bike that's fully fitted with high quality Ohlins is not a better bike than the base? The electronics does the same thing as manual adjusters anyhow.
its got oversprung ohlins ttx shock and nix 30 kit, most people know ohlins out the box stuff is no good always need revalved / resprung, and the rest of the bits of carbon total bling that's all nothing to make it the better bike,
If you put softer springs on the S then you're going to be hitting the limit of fork travel at anything above inters group level riding as the brakes are so powerful. If anything they are sprung too soft for faster riding but then they would be uncomfortably stiff for normal road riding. As far as I can see most people are revalving the base model forks, not the S model, certainly with the earlier bikes which had some issues with the forks.
If I have the Wonga I would. I have ridden one back to back with my 1199s and its on a different level
