1199 1199s Px Prices

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by JohnR, Feb 16, 2015.

  1. That's really bizarre as a lot of reports have said that it is a bit linear hence why they have developed the 1299 with more low/mid range grunt.
But IMHO I think the 1199 is absolutely nuts.

  2. I've blown the budget getting the bike I got. I don't know for certain (of course), but I rather think that after the usual dip for a few years, these original version 1199's will be as yearned for as 916's are in comparison to all the improved versions that aped it later on. They are almost too raw for most owners and that's the very quality which will ensure it's future success. I have to hang in there... got no more spare money, but I still would have a hard time wanting to change what I have for the new more softened version. Easier to ride, less scary = more ordinary and a bit boring. Of course I could be completely wrong and be talking a load of old b@ll@cks !

  3. Now I'm in an awkward position...being in the market for a panigale at the oddest of times. I don't care too much about cost, but it is obviously a factor (mostly street riding, maybe a few track days).

    2015 - 1299 Base - $18,700 (€17,000) new
    2014 - 1199S - $18,000 (€16,400) new
    2013 - 1199 Base 4k miles - $13,000 (€11,800)

What are your thoughts...Interested in hearing from owners. I don't ride too much, but I will definitely ride fair amount. Hence, the question, what would you do/recommend?

  4. 1299 Base. I'm not sure that Ohlins on an 1199 has a huge amount of extra over and above the base 1199/1299.

I'm surprised there has been no Ohlins box to make the 1199 properly semi active as they did with the Multistrada.

  5. As is visible, I have an 1199 Tricolore. The reasons I bought it still hold true. I'm gradually learning how to get the best from it and if I live long enough, I'd like to wear it out. I fear that I have no idea why anyone buys 'the latest thing' after barely using the thing they already got. The waffle about part/ex values and the latest geegaw is all self induced mind games. If you want to save your pennies, don't buy the darned bike in the first place...... you're never going to use it anyway ! If you do spend your money on an expensive toy, use it properly, get to know it intimately, become it's friend..... then it's monitory value is utterly immaterial.

  7. It doesn't help that Ducati themselves have made such a big deal about the level of improvements on the 1299 over the 1199 and that dealers are saying much the same; even that a base 1299 is a better bet than a second hand 1199 S. As it happens, I love the black 1199 S but you don't see many around and the amount of improvements on the new model has put me off the 1199. Problem is for me that I can't really justify a new one, I don't particularly like (in comparison with the black) the red, and a black 1299 for 2016/2017 is unlikely at best. Nevertheless, I'm going for a test ride on a 1299 S next weekend so I may yet change my mind.

  8. with all the 'improvements' at some point, its inevitable the panigale will lose its soul and become a japanese inline 4 smooth bike, with no traits of a characterful Ducati, that day will be a sad day indeed, but if thats what the majority want.........

  9. It's still bonkers to ride mate only way way better straight out the crate , got 1500 miles on now and about to fit fresh rubber , don't miss my old 11 like I thought I would and I Loved it.

  10. I do fancy a go on one, just to see, but I couldnt justify changing. I like the rough edges of the 1199, I think the 'rough edge' is the appeal for me. If if was easier to ride, I think that would bore me, some think the 1199 is an animal, I think it could do with 50hp more!.

  11. Speaking as one without ever having made an actual comparison and relying upon only what I have read, written by others, I get the distinct impression that the 1299 is in a 'softer' state of tune than the previous 1199. This would then be more than offset by the extra capacity to give a tiny few more bhp and enhanced tractability. The 'down-shift blipper' is a nice extra touch that I might add to my 1199 if ever the software was available, though possibly I don't actually need it ! The fattening of the frontal area will definately help keep being blown out of the saddle but has done no favours to the aesthetics and the tail end change seems merely for the sake of it to no benefit at all in the great scheme of things. The matters which should have been attended to with all these changes afoot, such as fuel tank capacity, access to the oil-level sight and adjustable rear-sets, have been deemed unnessessary to the target audience for some reason.
So, it's more user friendly, bragging rights on spec and performance have been catered for and it's renewed the model sufficiently to get a significant number of 'never satisfieds' to shell out for the lastest, best new thing. With VAG/Audi in the 'steering committee', no wonder !
...and no, I'm not jealous, a little curious perhaps, but I think the 1199 is the purest version (just as the LP400 was the purest Countash).

  12. Go and ride one mate then you'll see , did 10'000 miles on me 11 with full system on , the new 12 is still every bit an angry Bastard only easier to ride faster and more confidently

  13. I had a test ride on a 12 at the weekend, base model first bike with elecktrickery I've ridden and loved it. It was a pussycat with all the aids on but a proper snarling beastie in "race". Loadsa grunt, sounds great with standard cans, you can get some crazy shotgun effects with the shifter/blipper :D . Don't know what the 11s are like but these are most definitely a Ducati, a pulsing twin that's just as agricultural as the older trellis framed superbikes, I'd have one tomorrow if I could :upyeah:

  14. Ok, ok, maybe I'm talking Bollox again....... not an unknown nor an infrequent occurance as those who know me will attest .

    :Wacky:

  15. A quick look via Google shows a UK dealer selling a 2013 1199 S for sub-£16K with less than 2K mileage. Just £1K more for a new unregistered 2015 1199 S. On the other hand, another dealer is doing an 1199 S for £17,750 with 2K miles so the prices do vary a lot. I don't think I'd want to pay nearly 18K for the 1199 S though. Maybe last year that price difference was worth it but not this year with the spec change.

If I had an 1199 S I don't think I'd be selling for a 1299 S on spec but equally, I don't think I'd be buying an 1199 S unless the price was very attractive.

Looking forward to the test ride though because despite all I've said, I've never actually ridden a Panigale yet so who knows what I'll make of one :)

  16. For what it's worth, my local dealer has just offered me a 2014 1199S DEMO with 900 miles for $18,500 out the door...taxes tag title included. However in a rare and shocking turn of events, he still hasn't sent it to me in writing (asked him to around 1:30 today). $18,500 OTD seems like a great price for an S, but it is a DEMO...and I'm not sure that the 1299 Base wouldn't be a better deal. 1299 Base is a year newer, and has a good amount of upgrades over the 1199...all for an extra $1,800 or so...

    Help!!!

  17. A lot of what this guy says is about the new S but some does apply to the base model:

  18. Thanks, now leaning towards 1299...I wish I could make up my mind.

  19. Hopefully the dealer can arrange a test ride on both if you're definitely buying one or the other?
