1199s Tricolore Or 1299s?????

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by tcrofty7, Apr 20, 2020.

  1. In my opinion the 1299 was a pretty big leap of improvement over the 1199 (widely considered so)

However... the tricolore is also in my opinion the best looking panigale they made

  2. 1299, its what made up for the lack of low down grunt.

  3. Unfortunately I don't seem to have that sort of luck. I pay the premium then end up selling for much less

  4. And there in lies my problem. Go with the good looking one or go with the sensible option?

  5. Get the 1299s and paint it like a northerners trainer.

  6. What would you marry? I chose a good looking sensible one - not good :no_mouth:

  7. Easy now!!

  8. Does such a thing exist??

  9. Great advice, thanks.

The tricolore I've seen is a tad shy of £14k. It's the one in the photo above. I have no idea if that's value for money or not?

  10. Hi Tccrofty7.
What a nice dilemma to be in.
I’d say the 1299 would be better on the road. It’s extra power appears in the midrange going by reviews and reports. Something people felt the 1199 was missing explaining some riders preferring the 1098/1198’s when they test rode the 1199’s. 11/1299 is still a hell of a lot of bike for the road. I have an 899 and find it plenty for the road and not to intimidating for developing my skills on the track. Although lower on power, I do miss my 999s. Such a nice throttle response and connection with the engine.
I have test ridden a 959 and although I could feel a smidge more power in the mid range, it didn’t feel as alive or mechanical as my 899. However the 959 and 1299 have a different positioned swinging arm mounts (as does the 1199R) which makes those models feel so planted and stable. The handling characteristics really stood out for me on my test ride.
My bet would be if you rode the two bikes back to back, the 1299 would stand out as the better performing bike, but something might just keep you longing for that Tricolore.
I’m looking for a 959 Corse for my next bike! That’s how nicely balanced the baby Panigale’s are.
As suggested previously, get on the two bikes and make a decision from there. Let us know the outcome.
    All the best.

  11. Cheers :upyeah:

  12. Tricolore is local to me, nice guys there.
I lusted after a paingale and when I could afford one I got a 1199 (my first duc) I had it for 4 months, in the end I loved looking at it but didn’t really want to ride it, I get more joy from my 2009 fireblade, I would concur with others above, if you have your heart set on the pani, get the 1299 as it seems the better bike.

  13. Yes :( plenty in the Czech Republic ;)

  14. Well, you've just thrown a spanner in the works ;)

  18. If it’s the idea of paying too much for the Tricolore - look at the one that’s 2k less - and make a cheeky offer on it - buyers market right now....
