1200 DVT 1200s Dvt Vs Ktm1290 Superadventure

  1. Agree,all KTM'S are fugly.

  2. Some def are. I thought the SMT looked OK though and the new 1290s look good apart from the SA which is a bit of a festering carbuncle. Hell of an engine though!

  3. KTM are bikes that look much better in the metal than they do in pictures. But to be honest the Multi isn't a looker either :Bag:. All the big KTMs now have hideous exhausts but I guess Euro 4 emissions regs are more to blame for that. (Oh for a set of underseat pipes or an Akro under-slung system..)
I don't have a too much of a problem with the look of 1290 GT, though its not as mean as the SDR. My big objection, apart from the ridiculous price, is the amount of electronic widgetry on it. Hill start assist, adjustable engine braking (why?), lean detectors, accelerometers....
When will someone make a normal big bike with some wheels, an engine and somewhere to sit and just a piece of cable between the twist grip and the throttles?
I'm still looking forward to a test ride though.

  4. I think the Multi's a nice looking bike! Well, the 1200 one anyway! (Sorry to owners of the old ones!)
But yeah, I'm a bit worried about the electronics in bikes these days. My 1993 Blade is still running perfectly and has bloody decent performance with almost zero electronics. Will my Multi still be working when it's 22 years old? I bloody doubt it and I know which bits will have failed. Try getting a new suspension ECU for a 10 year old Italian bike, let alone a 20 year old one. I like to hang on to my bikes but I fear we're going to be forced into a 5 year replacement cycle when all the electronics go pop after spending all that time in the extremely harsh environment of a powerful, ridden-in-all-weathers motorbike.
BTW, in terms of ridiculous price, the new Pikes Peak makes the 1290 GT look bloody reasonable!!
