I have been running my 848 on a 14t sprocket for about 500 miles now and like it more and more, it's much easier around town and I can actually use 6th gear at less than 95MPH. I just can't see that Ducati would make a 14T (actually two, as they do a lightweight one) if it causes an issue with the chain, maybe more wear, but anywhere near as much as a badly looked after chain?
changed mine back on my 848SF - now bike has remap doesn't seem to need it , plus I had to have cush drive replacement etc - think I prefer stock - the must do mod was the remap
Chain and sprockets are consumables. If you fit soft tyres for better grip and a better ride you know they won't last as long as harder tyres. C&S are the same, you fit what makes the enjoyment of riding better and then it wears a little quicker, so be it. I've not got a mutly, but have never really noticed any differences in wear with any sprocket size changes I've done. Cheap chains and alloy sprockets have all wore out noticably quicker so I don't make them mistakes any more.
In fact I decided not to change the sprocket since I had the decat and remap done. It pulls very nicely... at the moment I'm happy. I tell you what we really need now: sun, twisty roads and DTC off
Thanks Andy.....Anita was the one of the people I emailed, still no reply. Not to worry now....I found a supplier at California Cycleworks who have already shipped the sprocket within a few hours of me ordering!
