15000 mile service

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by gpearson, Mar 12, 2012.

  1. ok thanks Gents, I am planning on putting another 6-10k miles on her this year so might just bite the bullet and get it all done now.

  2. Unless you have an extended warranty I'd just get it done at 15k, especially as it's about to be 2 yrs old and run out of warranty anyway.

  3. I did mine early at about 12k - had a voucher for the 2yr service so I thought what the hell - cost me nowt

  4. There appear to be a few 'holes' in the service schedule provided in the Workshop Manual by Ducati!

    One that I'm aware of:

    # Change fuel filter

......anyone how often these tasks should be carried out?

Anyone think of anything else to add??

My custom service schedule check list (checklist from the workshop manual customised;-) :D

  5. The fuel filter on my ST4s and various previous Ducatis from the Desmoquattro and Testastretta eras was specified for changing every 12,000 miles or 2 years, whichever came first. I meticulously changed it to schedule and it was always as clean as a whistle, every 3 years would have been plenty. However I would expect that Ducati would have spec'd it for the major service at every 15,000 miles or 2 years.
Brake and clutch fluids are hygroscopic should be changed every 2 years on any vehicle. So I'd also put that down for 15,000 miles or 2 years. I personally change them annually.
I wonder why Ducati don't mention these for the MTS - forgot?

  6. My 2013 manual for the service chart shows 36 months for the brake / clutch fluid. Also a recommendation to change all the brake lines every 4 years!

  7. They've obviously taken it into account on the manual for the later bikes, although I think 3 years is a bit long.
It will be fun, not to mention expensive, to try to change the brake lines on an ABS equipped bike every 4 years. The flexy hoses are bonded straight to the hard pipe with no couplings!

  8. I agree, 3 years does seem a little long. Me, I tend to change it once a year ish, simple enough to do.

The 4 year recommendation for the lines was on my Tuono also oddly. Seems more of a get out in the event of a failure then a necessity. ACF50 and some winter fettling should prevent any external issues. Not sure of the construction of the OEM lines, I would hope steel outer and Teflon/ptfe inner ?

  9. Before I got my bike (2011 Diavel) I got told that the big service was done when it was 5 years old as it's either 12000mls of 5 yr old .
So my question is my 15k service is due in 2500 mls so what's needed still pls ? Need to get a mortgage or just a bank loan? Lol

  10. I would say that if you go to a dealer the service would be around a bag o sand.

If you can do some work yourself and know an independent Ducati technician, e.g. Ducati John in Rothwell, then you will be able to negotiate the work you want him to do and what you will do and then the cost will be say from around £350 up to say £700 - £800 if he does it all.
