848 190/55 Rear Tyre

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by slovenc, Feb 14, 2017.

  1. Not an argument by any means - ie on my hypermotard - thatll stay on a 180 - heard lots of stories about people trying a 190 and not liking it....after all its high enough!

  2. i would be interested to know how you find the 200.

but hard to compare with so much subconscious beliefs in the mix too.

  3. is it the ither way round?

bigger tyre more turn in then?

smaller tyre more contact patch? (actively touching the road)

  4. Its a very grey area, tyres...so far most stuff ive read just doesnt seem to work for me...ie ive seen some amazing mileage quoted and ive never gotten more than 3k out of anything....the last but one set of supercorsas i had on the rsv lasted just over 1500 miles...this set have hit 2k as the suspension has been set up correctly...

  5. supercorsa's are soft compound all over and i had seen 1500-2000 mile average.

3k is proberly relaxed commuting miles

  6. More for suspension bods to answer that...

A bigger tyre on the rear will "jack the bike up on the rear" to yes, i would gather it would make the turn in better...
I would say bigger tyre bigger contact patch but, with a wider tyre (assuming its on the right rim) the contact patch on the side is larger but if a bigger tyre went on a smaller rim then smaller i gues...

  7. Im at just over 2k on mine at the moment but these have had an easy life this time...

  8. all i know is theres a reason ducati put a 180 on the rear of mine not a 190 or 200

  9. Whats the width of the rim?....and, more importantly (sounds wrong this does) but your listening to me...or us, the collective us....try it....i think with tyres you need to find out yourself...

  10. Slovenc was actually the one asking.

me myself. im happy with a 180

  11. Personally id say if you want to try a 190 then try one (Slovenc) but, a 200 would go out of shape and probably end up in an accident. The rule of thumb that i tend to go by is you can go one up on the size but no more...

  12. I'm distinctly average and can tell the difference between a 190/55 Scorion and 190/55 PR4. And so can most who post about tyres. So changing the profile can be very noticeable. :)

  13. difference in tyre compound and grip levels yeh, i can tell too.

    but between a 180 dunlop Q2to a 190 dunlop Q2?

  14. It's a 5.5 inch rim so may distort a little with a 190, depending on brand. It works both ways tho: I put a 180/60 on my multi as it was track SC and it distorts flatter, more like a 190/50 ish. But loads of grip :upyear:

Btw I ran a 200 on my gixer, it was easier to get off the edge than a 190. The big benefit is it's flatter at lean so you can get more power down. Plus the profiles are increasing, 200/60 is a big tyre!! :)

  15. you posted dufferent tyres not profiles

  16. They are the same profile and you can tell. So change the profile and same, an average rider is likely to notice. It will either fall into a corner or not be as easy to turn.

  17. Ive tried a 200/55 on the zed but not on the rsv....i think id try a 200/55 supercorsa....im liking those at the moment...almost like riding on a cushion of air...

  18. And as long as they are warm enough grip for 170hp thru then without traction control :upyeah:

  19. I ran supercorsa's exclusively for years. Great tyre and if you only run on the road you can pick up a ragged set in the paddocks at BSB rounds. Doesn't matter to me if there all bubbled up, I'm not taking them to their limit and I'm picking them up cheap.

  20. Small word of warning. Race rubber is designed to have only a handful of heat cycles and take longer to warm up. Can be an issue if you ride in cold weather or only pottering about. I have run them myself but was fully aware of the risk and, end of the day, it's vlack, round and rubber so all works eh @Rman :)
