1997 748, 2 wire alternator output???

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Phill748, Nov 24, 2013.

  1. Thanks, yeah we measured the stator and were only getting around 60v maximum out of the stator and when revving the battery voltage dropped! So out the stator came and we got a new reg/rec also.

It sounds like we need to wire the earth from the reg rec direct to the battery but the positive into the old loom to make sure we bring the fuse into play. Although I would much rather just wire direct to the battery.

  2. Is this up and running yet, I hate following a thread that doesn't have an ending.

  3. A little later on... but just in case it helps folk... my output approximates what Derek suggests: 20 V at 1,000 rpm, 40 V at 3,000 rpm.

  4. Just seen this old thread pop up. Yes we did get it up and running (my bad for not updating the thread) and had the stator re-wound and fitted a new Reg/Rec and the bike has been spot on since. We thought the battery was fried but after a few rides it started holding a better charge and it's been fine since. He has done trackdays and road riding etc all good :)
