number 35 (i cant be arsed or remember even if i did look back to see if someone else has said it) (so consider this conformation if someone has) are deffo the lil brackets that get riveted to the end of the nose cone support arms that in turn take the mirrors (the arms coming off the head light bucket i mean)
3 and 8 with a cap screw (allen bolt) go on just below oil level window hold battery breather, the other 8 goes with a similar part to 3 which holds fuel lines that bolts to vertical head think left side exhaust cam cover.

Fantastic! Thanks all. By way of update. No assembling competed yet All the gaskets i upset due to the painting have now been replaced and torqued back up. The tyres have been removed from the wheels, together with the front wheel bearings, ready for painting (antique gold). I had a nightmare trying to remove the rear air valve from the wheel, the thread had completely stripped so had to use mole grips and herculean strength to wind the bolt off, effectively carving in a new thread. Tyre wise, these will need replacing as old and the guys in the shop said they would go very plasticy. I'm thinking RossoCorsa 120/70 and 180/55 (if memory serves). The bike won't be doing massive miles so the quick wear shouldn't be an issue. Is the step up from Rossa to Super worth the degradation and price? The main frame and headlight frame have now been lacquered. They were painted with RS paint and looked great but needed lacquer. I couldn't bring myself to spend the RS money for some lacquer so picked up some Hycote lacquer from ECP. A decision I slightly regretted as the lacquer was incredibly thick and heavy, and hard to get a fantastic finish. With that said the finish is good, but not amazing. The front shocks (Showa) narrow brake fixing type are really grotty, but my dad luckily has a spare pair of the gold Showa wide brake mount tyre which I am nabbing. I've also a pair a Brembo P4s to fit to these so the front stopping power should be brilliant. Cambelts will be done most probably today. A little nervous about getting the tension right but I'll try and use a combination of all the methods online to achieve the right result. Then... I can start putting it together! Quick thanks to Red998 who has been incredibly helpful so far! First trip on the bike may be straight to yours for a beer and a thank you!
How sad have we become....? We can look at a bunch of seemingly random nuts, bolts and springs and identify everyone of them...
Right. Baby arrived! Beautiful Matilda, mum and baby well. Bike progress halted but has started again, got some serious work done yesterday. Suspension all fitted, lovely almost new Showa gear which my dad found on ebay. Really taking shape now.
All went together quite easily and the majority of the bolts were obvious where they went. The rear swing arm pivot bolt that holds the swing arm to the frame doesn't look quite right, I'll try and get a photo up later. Also I have been using Carlube LM2 as my grease but Haynes calls for Moly grease so I will clean and regrease these parts accordingly, unsure how critical this is though. More updates to follow
Hi all, This is still on going but has slowed somewhat due to baby. I'll post some more pics up shortly. J
So, As promised, a little update. The wheels have now been painted and powder coated by Primo Alloys in Guildford. The paint was purchased from RS paints. The job by Primo was fantastic and I would have no issue recommending them to anyone. Wheels bearings (SKF) then pressed in and my new Ducati tyre valves attached. My dad and I then set about attaching the front wheel which after much messing around was ultimately done with the help of an Abba Stand and front lift. Awesome bit of kit and made the job a breeze. So both wheels attached. Looking a lot more like a bike! Very exciting. The coolant hoses were a bit grubby so I bought some silicon replacements. Now I know that these won't be seen but I know they are there and they are significantly stiffer than the 17 year old ones I replaced. New (ish) stainless jubilees finished it off nicely. Next job is the wiring, which from the nearside at least doesn't look too daunting. The offside from photos looks a bit more of a rat's nest but think I'll be OK as long as I'm methodical. Should be able to make a little more progress this weekend. Here are a couple of photos. It continues.
hi mate looking good!! i see you got and alloy sub frame on it now, you know you have to change the wire loom and ecu??.
Hiya. Yes my dad and I are still pondering what to do about this. I've both the bip subframe and the alloy one. My dad is convinced that if we can modify the ally one to take the bip ECU then we're home and dry, is he correct or will countless other things not be compatible with the sub frame?
Great thread to follow , have you worked how much it's all cost so far ? Sorry to be vulgar but want to do my 749 over the winter .
Glad you're enjoying it! Cost wise. Well I'm keeping all the receipts and I have started a spreadsheet. Needless to say at the moment I haven't done a recent tally but once it's done I will of course share with you. Will be nice of this thread is used as a reference for bits and bobs for other people, so I will try to include as much info as I can, which will include a breakdown of all costs.
mate if you look at my 748/853 sps thread in builds and projects ive done the same using the standard ecu and wiring with the alloy sub frame
