1998 750ss purchase on the way.....

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by Toomanybikes, Oct 1, 2012.

  1. Mine was £1K, needed a few bits here and there, but has turned out to be a half decent clean example.......has a Ducati relevant plate, but not for the SS!

  3. Tidy innit?

Top pic.....move the speedo cable wire guide to the top bolt and so that it is horizontal..

Bottom pic.....where's the big Ducati decal gone?

Still has the flip-up stand by the looks of it........You know the easy cure to make it stay down, do you?

Pillion seat cover not there....is that intentional on your part?

    I will, thank you.

It is there, just the photo is pixilated!

    Uhm...no

Pillion seat cover not there....is that intentional on your part?
just got one on ebay (with white number plate)

    Thanks AL!

  5. Pixilated? Crumbs...what size pixels?

Stand....if you don't want the stand to flip up as soon as you move the bike, the simplest way to do it is to remove the odd conical nut thingy that holds the stand leg on.....(might need some effort to move it....some people Loctite them on)......and reduce the height of the allen socket to about 1mm - 2 mm above the 'cone'......that should allow the spring plate to pass over it so it stays down.....

.......OK, I hear you say, the allen socket is too small to use an allen bit / key in it now......Yep, so what I did was file two flats onto the edge of the conical bit so I could use an open end spanner to tighten it.....I haven't Loctited mine, and it hasn't shown any signs of coming undone in three years.

So you have bought a single seat then?....Looks a bit daft with pillion footrests, though.......Have fun fitting it......

  6. How bl**dy odd is that........?

I have not long ago removed my white bits which I cut from some white sign self adhesive vinyl.......I decided I didn't like them....

  7. I see. The one I got has a squarer white square with gold pinstriping. Looks good in the box..
My Ducati sticker is the later version, with just the text just outlined.

  8. Such a gorgeous example! Really miss my SS

  9. As we're all showing off, here's mine. small.jpg

  10. Did you buy these actual items off ebay? I watched them for ages but couldn't decide if they would look right on my standard bike. Please send pictures of them fitted if you did as I might think about getting a set painted the same. I noticed they went for a lot less than the original price.

  11. And in it's other guise......

  12. Yes, I got it for £99 and they are as new. Painted very nicely too. Am fitting them today, so will post photos later.

  13. Don't worry, I'm looking after her, all safely tucked up in a nice warm garage! :)

  15. If that had been a single seat, I bet you would have been swearing trying to fit it.....

    I thought the plate was a secret?........

  16. Been trying to sell him mine :-D

  17. Good plate though ! Took her to Box Hill just to make sure the seat was fitted correctly.....

  18. I think you got a real bargain there. Not sure if they would have been right for my bike though. There's something about the plain look of my bike that I really like. A nice set of carbon cans would be nice if anybody has a pair lying around. Love your number plate, I might have a look on the DVLA website - well it is nearly christmas.

  19. Your bike looks superb noddy' plain look is good :upyeah:
