2008 1098r Vs 2016 1199r

  1. Just in case you missed it.
There’s a black 1198SP at Powerslide Motorcycles, Stoke on Trent. It’s £11499 and it’s my old bike, so it’s a good one.

  3. Maybe not what you want, but the 1098s tricolor is rather tasty. Only had a few outings on mine, termis, chipped. Plenty fast enough and I cant imagine more go being that much use on the road. Is it for road use? Only used mine at about 60% of what I could and was told it was rather quick!
Nine times out of ten you are better off buying the one you like best. Then get the suspension set up and tyres you like.

  4. @J biker I had a 1098S previously, as per my profile pic. Did quite a few mods to it also and it was rapid. Absolutely loved the bike, best bike I have owned so far without a doubt. Unfortunately had to sell due to divorce, although circumstances will be changing soon and coming into a bit of kash. Looking at stepping up and getting the 1098R!!

Anyone jumped from a 1098S to a 1098R? Are there any noticeable differences to set up / ride other than a sh*t load more welly??

Mine. Before I took delivery and removed the dreadful carbon tank protector things. Took hours!

  9. Better in the flesh and with the tank unmolested.

  10. I had a 1098S previously as well, this has waaaay more torque. As for set up, it all depends who you have set it up for you I guess. My S I had set up by Baines, the R has just had the forks rebuilt and the rear shock was done not long ago so it would be easy enough to get it set up by someone decent to your liking.

  11. Thanks DV, you know I am totally lusting after your 1098R ;o)

Good to know you had a 1098S before it... how did you find the transition from a 1098S to a 1098R? Is it essentially the same bike but with mega torque, or does it ride slightly differently? I keep hearing fkin bat shit crazy speed...

But presume seating position is same, tank, handle bars etc. Did it feel similar when you bought it and was just pootling about or are all riding elements heightened? Steering/handling, braking etc.

Presuming have to be a lot more careful with throttle control etc and keeping the front end down?

  12. CJS got 107ft.lbs from my base 1198. Plus 170rwbhp. God knows what you'd get from a 1098R.

  14. I like it, looks cool. But yeah, it did catch my eye in a wtf kinda way the first time I clocked one.

  15. It's a nod to the old fibreglass tanks that had an unpainted strip as a "fuel gauge".
