think I will (weather permitting) have a look and hopefully try at the weekend - not the best time of year for it, but am itching to get back onto a bike - is a bit spontaneous, but am loving the looks of the multi more and more
i came from a 2011 GSA Twin Cam with ESA. A very competent bike. I think the BMW feels more planted in the corners and less affected by the surface, so maybe shades the handling stakes, tho nothing in it really. The BMW is a softer power delivery but I wouldnt say the multi is jerky, I can ride it smoothly with no difficulty. The BMW was a good tourer but engine performance wise the ducati is leagues ahead. The multi isnt a rattly/jerky beast, far from it. Mine has the cat removed, if the one you go for has no cat a word of warning, very loud. The new model sounds to have worthwhile upgrades the wind protection by default is garbage compared to a GSA, but with creen spacers I find makes it ok.
thanks for that - the comparison and your comments help me out here. The protection on the GSA is good, however I still dont like riding it on the motorway - is never much fun but just dont like it, good everywhere else though
just had some very off-putting news though - service costs, from independetn ducati specialist....... 12tkm = 605€, 24tkm 947€!!! That is a joke! I expected more than some others, but this is unbelievable!
when you buy a ducati, the purchase price is usually the cheapest part of the experience! - expect to spend a lot more each month with customisations and the 'next project' seriously if price is an issue then I would not recommend you get a ducati. Once I said to my dealer that i could get a honda for XX and he simply said - yes but its not a ducati - there is a level of cost/higher maintenance involved with a ducati. bugs
Understand this - have had several ducatis before BUT those servicing costs really do seem ridiculous - long intervals or not. I wont ride 12tkm per year BUT that would still mean I either have to have the service, or an annual service that will be somewhere around it. Is really a super premium to pay for the badge. I appreciate that ducati is something special, otherwise I wouldnt consider changing, but those values quoted are really quite ridiculous!
Better check the cost of that 12tkm again. There's no way a minor service costs over 600 euros. - From what I've read a major one could be 947 euros though if shims are checked/replaced.
Checked again with the people who want to sell me the bike - they quoted around 250€ for the 12tkm but over 1100€ for the 24tkm - so I see big differences now in the 12tkm but the 24tkm is astonishingly high!
Yeah, 250 is more like it. - Just have to shop around. Mine's a 2011 build. Never had a problem with fueling/jerkiness. Don't know what all the fuss is about. Negotiate a free service or two, no?
Is a second hand bike althogh it only has a few kms on it. Is a 2012, fully loaded with extras and carbon and the price seems okay - hopefully testing saturday weather permitting, then if all good it depends on the part ex deal i can get, dont think there will be much more room for negotiations on services - wait and see, am excited though..... If not then a 2013 new model with hopefully good negotiations on the list price - have been thinking of several options and bikes, but somehow really heiss about the multi!
Don't expect much negotiation on the list price. They will be flying out as quick as they can build them!!!
I got a free 1st service, top box, 12 month. tax and registration. only £220 more than the list price. Chuffed!
Surely serving cost is offset by frequency against the GS, the BMs 'were' every 4k compared to MTS1200 at 7.5k? Thats as close to double as not be worth arguing over....
Nope..... My beemer is every 10tkm and the multi every 12tkm, doesnt justify for servicing at least the increased costs....
£220 will cover all most of that to them. In real terms the first service will cost them about £20 in wages and electric. Don't get me wrong, I think you have got a good deal and I'm pleased your happy. I have got myself a great deal too but that is due to the part ex price they have given me, not discounts on the new bike.
one last comment / question............ There are two bikes for sale at my dealer, both 2012 models, the one I mentioned here, fully loaded, lots of carbon and then TOURING model, one the basic model with ABS which is approx. 4k€ less........ Is the 4k justified? I would need panniers anyway at some stage which I know arent cheap, but just wondering if the difference is justified for the öhlins and a few other extras - thoughts / opinions? test ride saturday booked!
I have tried both, the base model suspension doesnt feel radically different to ohlins like I found it did between say an 848 and a 1098s, but the luggage grips etc i liked and the extra bling factor of the gold forks so i have an s touring. if you are asking if ohlins is amazing in comparison i would say not. Give them both a try!
Thanks - I think I will. Am not honestly a big carbon fan so that optical part doesnt impress BUT the nice aftermarket exhaust, gold öhlins plus the automatic settings for suspension does impress me Looking forward to testing this, though I feel it is gonna cost me
