tbh am not much of a fiddler......... Like the idea of changes via a button - I have this on the beemer and it is handy. Guess maybe that answers my question? Is a lot of extra cash thought for the rare occasion of fiddling
I'll come at this from the other perspective. I havent ridden a base model version, but the Ohlins is simply sensational. Best suspension I've experienced on a bike by a country mile. Looking forward, I'd be astonished if the Sachs Skyhook could be much better but I'll give one a crack to try. The Ohlins contributes to being able to both cruise in a velvet glove and also tear up sportsbikes if the mood takes you. You can just cover ground at the most astonishing rate, either in a relaxed fashion or like your pants are on fire. Every time I ride the bike it simply amazes me.
Did you have to fiddle with it a lot to get it to perform like this, or do you think it pretty much performs out of the box?
You can fiddle with it to your hearts content but the suspension settings in each mode are superb straight out of the box in my view. I think you'd have to be one of Hayden, 7 stone or 20 stone for fiddling much to be really needed.
Re Ohlins Fully set up, revalved and sprung to match rider standard suspension £1k max. IF required, just buy some Ohlins decals lol. Its not worth the 3k premium. Plus the bike will be perfect for the rider. Reading through reviews and owners problems it seems there are some issues with Ohlins with front end knocking, undersprung back end (two up...or 'larger pilots') and leaking front seals. I do like the gold but dare put money on decent tyres having more benefit.
