I think if I had the money the only thing that would make me get something newer would be electronics, traction control etc etc.....I'd be looking at it from a safety angle....and then I think I would go for another rsv4...or, maybe retro fit the aprc stuff as quite a lot of people have done it...
No - mines the first one....the electronics go as far as 3 maps, road, wet and sport - that's it. But, a lot of lads on the aprilia forum have bought the entire APRC kit from breakers and retro fitted it themselves...quite a big job though...
even after 2 years of owning it I still love the looks, the way it goes, the size, feel of it. Its been reliable, if anything this year at the TT the first run over the mountain loosened it up really nicely...
I always thought the R1 was the nicest looking JIL4. Looks wise, I think the 2015 is shite. You pays your money..... etc.
Other way round for me....id say its the worst. The underseat pipes don't work - its almost like - they were looking for somewhere to put them, had nowhere and stuck em there. Definitely prefer a side exit exhaust - ironically id say the only bike I like "above wheel" exhausts is the hyper...not because I own one....its just the way it is, the side exit termi doesn't look right... JIL4 - id say the ZX10
Well i'm sorted for a test ride on the new R1 as soon as it arrives in the dealers , which isn't long now
Any new bike and the words traction control pop up ,why is it a must have ? I run a 1098r and its been switched off from week one , at least I know what will happen if I provoke the beast .how many people only hope the electrics will save them? Come on were supposed to be adrenaline junkies , grow some balls and learn to respect the power you paid all that money for
Traction control is for girlies who want a big 1000cc bike but can't handle the power, the throttle is where it is, and if you can't muster this simple control then get yourself a bloody moped, biking is becoming more PC every year and the lack of skill and judgement to ride machines that produce 200BHP ad go near 200MPh should clearly be left to people who can control them in my opinion!!
PS the way bikes produce lovely linear power nowadays compared 90's machines which were death machines with crappy tyres and brakes is another excuse of lack of balls
Aye Glen , still got the beast , it does more miles on circuits these days , I did think about selling it a few months ago when I started to build the AMA bike but that's nearly finished now and Ive still got the Duke , result You still got yours ?
aye, did a dozen trackdays on it over here in sweden last year and really enjoyed mesell. In the middle of stripping it completely for track use only, and parcelling up all the bayliss bodywork nice and safe. Best year of riding Ive had in ages. Looking forward to the season this year. Its gonna be mint.
Bit harsh Bradders? - im not sure if he means that....the best riders in the world always were - traction control just helps them go faster...although in your defence he seems to being a little black and white with people who do value it... Personally for me - its something id love to experience, but cant afford it, maybe if I had only one bike then I could get something newer but I like having the 3 older bikes!
I haven't changed any settings on my multi. I can't just pin it. I roll on the same as I do for every other bike. TC allows mere mortals to enjoy riding, and believe they are taming, fire breathing Superbike monsters.
Well, ive got no point of reference so ill go on what you say.....ive never been on anything with traction control (or ABS for that matter). Kinda loathed to have a go on anything else as the last time I did (mates R6) I wrote it off....and even moreso as my mate at work (the one helping me with wiring my bike up) keeps saying that I need to have a go on his ZZR1440....I think that would be bad...
If bikes come with all the rider aids ,surely that's a good thing to making us all just that little bit safer on road or track ,no matter what level of rider we all are . Granted though there will still be people who push the limits noticeably there own
