At any stage has anybody taken the plugs out and inspected them? There's a condition called corona discharge where the spark tracks down the outside of the plug to the metal base. At this point you will get a misfire. It occurs with damp and/or dirty plugs. The tell tale sign is a yellow stain around the base of the insulation. I'm not saying this is definitely the problem but it needs to be ruled out.
Not an ex-demo was it? The experience I had with them was similar. Once the deal was done, they really weren't interested in the various issues I had.
Hi, just bumping this thread wondering if there was a resolution to the issue experienced by the original poster. Ive just bought a 66' plate DVT which seems lumpier to me than when i tested it, ive also been experiencing pops and bangs when shutting off throttle, way more than when it was tested. In between my test and picking it up the dealer, (not a Ducati dealer but had experience of doing the belts), the belts were replaced, these have been checked and are all good.
As others have said. Most likely the front HT lead. The newer ones seems to be a lot more robust. Ducati must have realised they can be problematic. Good luck
All plugs and the front ht lead have been replaced, I’ll check out the exhaust flap tomorrow but can see it being an issue as there have been no dash warnings.
you may need to take it to a ducati dealer who has all the proper gear for doing the DVTs. Mine was done by a very experiencd ducati mechanic who had very little experience at that stage with the DVT and he got it wrong first time, rechecked and thought it was right on the second inspection and then found it was out one tooth on an exhaust cam. He was embarrassed and surprised that this had happened but was totally straight up with me. He had to get more gear to set it properly, he told me.
Cheers for the reply, im lucky to have an experienced indi service person close by with a great reputation on these machines. Hes going to check it over for me soon. Ive done a hundred and odd miles over the weekend and the bike seems to have smoothed itself out quite a bit, less popping and banging and smoother low down.I still want it checking over for peace of mind as not confident in the quality of work of the original techs to be honest. Ive also realised after looking for the exhaust valve to check its operation that the bike has a full termi system, which is nice
As you first described it only had an issue when you got caught out in the wet. Very surprised the front HT lead is not causing the issue.
whether it’s related or not? But after being out in very heavy rain the connectors on the TPS started rusting, causing rough running. I simple clean of connectors cured it, but I imagine that had also built up a bit over time?
As mentioned in my previous post the bike was checked over by my local guru. Riding it round there, (less than a mile), it was chugging, wouldn’t pull at all and just generally poor. Local guy checked bike over and reported nothing obviously wrong but concurred that it was running rough one minute on test run then pulling hard the next, inconsistent. Top and bottom Is it’s going back to supplier and I’m seeking a refund. Gutted, but this will be the third time I’ve had to return it and I’m not prepared to be a guinea pig while the bike gets sorted.
