1200 DVT 2018 Multistrada

  1. No mate, I like the SA, the only thing I don't care for too much is the Ferris wheel up front. :p

  2. Hmm, thanks for the responses guys, shame the PP doesnt have adjustable suspenders. That alone means I wont buy that model (for the £20k+ price).

    That only leaves the S version for me, as I want adjustable for swapping between solo + luggage + pillion.

    That 18k5 is likely for the S touring, which is currently 17k8. It is strong money, but so are the alternatives.
    The S touring in 2010 was 14k8 from memory, so essentially going up by ~500 quid each year over that time.

    Hmm, decisions, decisions...

  4. The weak pound against the Euro must have a bearing on what is coming 8nto the UK in terms of cost. Until quite recently one could easily expect 1.3 euros against your hard earned. That must have a significant bearing on the cost of a new MS. Maybe the Japanese brands haven’t faired quite as well against the pound?

  6. 1290SA 177 bhp figures are more like 140 at the wheel...so I guess they all exaggerate a bit
    Lost an absolute fortune on my 1190 , life long ktm fan but will never buy another new one , shocking depreccation and that big front wheel is a shocker
     
  7. I also lost a fortune on my 1190. KTM have a habit of throwing in panniers and interest free finance when things get slow, having a knock on effect on used pricing. Great engines in those bikes though. (early ones got a "tad" warm)
    In all fairness, lost a bit on my Multi also. That's the price of changing bikes two years old I suppose...
     
  8. Same metrics here, John - if the PP had semi-actives (y’know, like our 2010s) I’d already be on the phone to the dealer. As it is, I’m unsure - the 1260 is a stonking engine though.
     
  9. Since I’ve paid the TermiTax I won’t be upgrading any time soon. Only tangible difference is the QS - rest appears to be minor tweaks. If mine stays reliable I could see keeping it 5-6 years. If not, then perhaps a 2020 for the warranty. Time will tell.
     
  10. Could someone say if there is a noticeable difference in performance if they’ve ridden the 1200 Multi and the 1260 Diavel? I appreciate the tuning on the new Multi has yet to be assessed but just as a basic guide?
    I mean, surely a manufacturer won’t make an upgraded version a worse machine than exists?
     
  11. I have a dvt and have ridden the diavel with the 1260. Can't compare I'm afraid, they are tuned completely differently, the diavel has great mid range stomp but thought my multi was faster. The diavel only had 700 miles on it as well where as mine has loosened up, but in all reality, there's no comparison cause they are completely opposite in the way they are tuned to perform. You'll just have to wait for the new multi and go test one I reckon.

  12. I've not ridden the 1260 XDiavel. It seems its not sold as well as they expected, whether that is due to cost or not I dont know. I understand that dealers had to offer a normal footrest package to increase interest though.

    I intend to keep my 2012 1200 regardless. That makes the decision harder still.
    I need to go have a talk with the dealer, see how long the order queue is, and when I might get one. Then determine if I might buy a no/low miles 2017 bike instead.
     
  13. I own a 2011 ABS model. Considering I have no problems with the bike whatsoever, would I upgrade to the new one? Let's see:
    • 192 kg dry vs 209 kg dry = no
    • 150 HP vs 158 HP = no
    • Still no TPMS = no (I mean cmon now ....)
    • Tank still 20lt = no (unless there is a change but since I cannot find an announcement on that I am pretty sure it's the same)
    • My bike's looks vs this bike's looks = no (totally subjective but it is what it is)
    • Skyhook = yes (I am not considering an upgrade to the base model)
    • Quick shifter = maybe (nice addition but not tipping the scales for me)
    • Longer wheelbase and all the changes to the steering geometry = hmmmm (maybe a stabler bike but mine is stable enough, meaning very stable, with or without side cases)
    • Better brakes in the S version (definitely better than mine but then again I don't know what better than great means. Maybe for track use only or when loaded)
    • LCD vs TFT screen = no (very nice but not a reason to part with tenths of thousands of euros/pounds)
    • Smoother engine/better fuelling = yes
    I was even considering the PP but it's too much money for no electronic Ohlins. So the only real reason for me to upgrade at the moment would be the Skyhook suspension. Prices not announced yet (I think it will be even later here in Greece) but I see no way that they will maintain the current prices. I'd love a new bike and I really wanted to love the new Multi. But I am currently letting a sigh, and it's not from relief ...

    It seems to be a very nice option for somebody who never had one but a really 'let down' option for current owners (especially for DVT ones I guess). I think the 2011 Multi really spoiled me ...

Must admit the Xdiavel is so expensive, put me off so I guess many others too, I must admit some of the costs now for premium bikes are becoming a joke, certainly making me think more about buying, and looking at bikes for keeping on a longer term. just milage worries me, doing around 10k a year on a Ducati not ideal due to the demo service.

  15. I do think Ducati have hit a bit of a wall on the MS, So many went for the DVT for many reasons last time, the only one for me like others was Seat Height, even at the expense of less comfort.
    Parting with my DVT over new one would only happen if they offered me a great part Ex. and that is not going to happen because of so many on PCP, that is Ducati's saving grace atm, and that is going to change as well in time.

    I had one of the first 2010 bikes, and changed it for a late unreg'd 2012 ohlins bike in Jan 14.
    I have already decided to keep it as it is great.

    Its a heart vs head thing. I dont need a new bike, but would like one. I can't even justify it in any real sense (dont need it for work, have other bikes including the current 2012 one).

    So, my dilemma is, do I bother to buy a new one at all, and does it have to be 2018 or a potentially cheaper 2017...
    Time for a conversation with the dealer me thinks :yum

  18. It's definitely a battle between heart and mind. At the moment the mind has all the aces :p.
    I would be REALLY tempted if it was a gorgeous bike to look at. As @MaDProFF said, it seems to me that even the company didn't really know what to do with the new Multi. No new feature is ground breaking. On the contrary it's very far from that. The generally boring presentation seemed like being the result of the empty "revolutionary feature" list (Multistrada wise). Maybe a ride will make me change my mind. We'll see.

The bit I did not get on the whole presentation was most of the time was spent talking chefs, movies, rockstars and shit... very little was said about the bikes, new features and improvements.. this leads you to believe Ducati did not have much to say.. Even the V4 pani was light on details.. when they should have been shouting about the new bike..
