And there are countries where you are just never sure about how true their ‘back story’ is….like African and Middle East teams entering the under 16’s tournaments with what looks like 30yr old blokes! Or the teams who enter para games and turns out they aren’t disabled…
Skateboarding is an Olympic sport? FFS. Karate was in last time but not now. BMX and skateboards, Jesus.
Olds. what they like. penicillin has ruined it for so many. evolution folks, get down with the kids or get out the way.
“According to Reuters, karate was rejected from past Olympic bids because organizers said “the sport lacked entertainment value and the ability to attract a younger audience.” reminds me of this forum lol
And that’s probably why Tae Kwon Do has been in the Olympics for over two decades now. Fights are more spectacular than Karate. A lot more kicks (above the belt).
Yeah, thanks. There are punches in Tae Kwon Do too, but not in the face. Only in the chest, to push your opponent back so that you can get enough space to kick them in the face, which is how you score a maximum of points (or win by KO…). Watching a karate fight is « boring » for the non experts because each action is extremely short in time. A few seconds only before being interrupted. Tae Kwon Do lasts for minutes, just like rounds in boxing. Exhausting but way more entertaining for the public. I agree though, Katate is a very « noble » martial art.
About 10 years ago it was discovered that most of the Spanish intellectually disabled para-basketball players who took part in the 2000 Sydney Olympics were faking it. If we lived in less touchy times, there’d be a very funny comedy film in that story.
