I didn't realise the base model was non-adjustable. That said I can't see how you are 'getting tank slap every time out' unless you are on really bumpy roads in race mode and holding on too tight and even then I just found the bike jumped around a lot but didn't get any steering wobble. I bought mine last week and went straight on a 700 mile trip out to the Isle of Man and the only time I had any steering wobble at all was one particularly fast trip over the TT mountain course and that was a once off low frequency wobble that didn't cause any problems. The Panigale is slightly forward heavy anyhow until you get on the bike so you'll probably have a little more weight distributed over the front than most people. Only a guess but are you sure you are not grabbing hold of the bars and making the wobble worse? The 1199 seems particularly sensitive to holding the bars too tight causing unwanted steering/throttle input.
Ive always run the OEM dampers on both my 916 and 1198. I only ever got a slap on when I had my rebound set too high. At all other times ive found the OEM is fine for my riding. I am 10.5st.
I had a tank slapper on my ST4, once. TBF it was fully loaded I probably weight 110 kgs and had a pillion, oh and i took my hands off the bars going down hill at about 40 mph. Apart from that Ive managed to avoid them in the last 34 years and two weeks.
Holding on tightly is a major cause of tank slappers. Best get some chicken wings and start letting the bike move around without shitting your kecks and holding on like a its your last hard on to wank.
Dont look at dirty women and and avoid lewd thoughts. Though they sometimes just occur of their own freewill in the mornings.
Nice one I think you will find the ohlins steering damper far better than the standard non adjustable ducati ones. I upgraded the same way on my old 996BP as I agree the one fitted as standard was shite.Luckily the duke I have now ohlins is standard kit.Im not surprised you need a better one if you are lightweight on high hp bike as front must get a bit flighty especially on crap roads. I tend to turn mine down for round town or commuting and adjust it again for more spirited rides.Hope it solves your problems but as this has worked on previous bikes id say your onto a winner there.Enjoy.
Sounds like you can't remember what you've posted. :Brb: As you say you weigh naff all and the bikes are set up from factory so I refer you back to the many posts that say the set up is wrong. Is it at all possible that the factory set ups aren't suitable for your weight?
I guess op wants to keep the standard suspension settings ,springs etc.Easier to sell bike on then as next buyer probably wont be 9 stone in weight. Ohlins damper is easy to remove and flog on ebay when your finished with the bike and fancy something else. If it solves the problem then sounds like good result to me.
Hmmm? let me think... A fifty quid suspension set up or a £400 damper? fuck yeah, get the damper (and still it wont handle well coz I fat fuck and bog standard suspension settings are de best barraapp barraap)
I still find it hard to accept that it's setup related. It seems much more like you need to calm down and practice riding smoother and then naturally build up your use of the throttle and steering? Grabbing hold of the bars whilst giving the throttle abuse and chucking it around will cause it to act like you are describing. You need to let the bike find it's own balance, the steering will naturally sort itself out if you don't grab hold of it when it goes a bit out of shape. Just relax your grip enough to let it shake about a bit and it will fix itself quicker than if you grab hold of it. Take a look at the twist of the wrist 2 vids on youtube, there's a good demo in there somewhere that shows the effects of hanging onto your bars over bumpy ground.
He's not interested in advice. just wants the bike and loves telling the lads how he can make a bike buck around. Fuck finesse, it's all banging it through the box and doing stoppies.
Not convinced it will be, there is a short thread on the 1199 forum about panigale weave and tank slapping. From what you say about your weight you are probably right on that front, although the solution may not be the damper but suspension set up as nearly everyone is saying. Dialling the damper up only made the problem worse apparently.....
