Will finish my tangent into the early biposto history with this. (Apologies for said tangent!) From an old thread: @Akorenika. "I have a early 95 Biposto which has most parts date stamped 94. It arrived in the UK in January 95. It was NOT made in Varese. Below is the letter from Ducati as proof. Dear Mr. Akorenika, I am contacting you with the feedback I have received from the appropriate department. The bike in question is a 916 Biposto England MY1995, sold to the English importer Three Cross Motorcycles LTD on January 27, 1995, and registered to the first owner on February 11 of the same year. Frame and engine serial numbers match, and they are same of when the motorcycle left the factory. This bike was produced in 258 pieces in 1995. It is part of the 916 production started in Ducati Motor Holding from January 1995, and has nothing to do with the 916 produced in 1994 in Cagiva, in Varese. We remain at your disposal if you have any further questions. Best regards, Carlotta Ducati Support Ducati Motor Holding Spa Borgo Panigale – Italy www.ducati.com I still have questions re: Falloon's table, but they'll have to remain unanswered. Wonderful bike pl2112, enjoy the spring riding.
I have had this from new and it's running very well I haven't taken it out yet but looking forward to that airbox sound and relentless power as the revs build I remember thinking "good job it's got a limiter" Happy days
I too have owned my 996 for 25 years, actually this Friday, 03 Novemeber 1998 I bought it new. Still love it and will never sell, its only the BP model but still special to me. Nowadays I only only use it for about 2-3 TD's at Silverstone each year. Have fitted a few upgrades, OZ Mag wheels, HPK discs, RC19, P4 Calipers, Nitron rear shock, revalved front forks, Slipper Clutch, larger rear sprocket... I have considered some subtle modifications to the engine, blue print, lighter components etc.. by Luigi Moto. Bike has done approx 10k miles, but now concerned it might go "bang" on me when giving it 10,500 revs down the Hanger Straight, LOL, hence giving it to Luigi for some TLC. Whenever I park up in the pit garage it will always attract attention of a few, comments ranging from "Beautiful Bike,... "you are brave using a Ducati that old" !! Anyway, hope I continue to get a few more years enjoyment doing the odd TD.
Another 25 year bike here, bought new in '98. A few mods, a bit of tuning and still running well with 51k miles on the clock.
And another! 5th November 1994. Owned from new. Getting it MoT'd on Monday. Might be getting a bit old for it now! My Honda NC750s DCT is my ride-to-work machine now.
22k. Everything still standard, just the way I like things. Oh, braided lines. I prefer the “used but well maintained” look to “showroom”.
For a used condition that nosecone should've stone chips like mine.!, so your doing well by the looks of things.!
It's called sitting in the attack position waiting for that opportunity, ie behind the drivers rear o/s wheel throwing traffic film up at me.!
Most of those miles done on empty roads very early in the morning and mid afternoons. And there was a lot less traffic around in the 1990s. But you should see the chips on my rear spring!
Agreed. One of my many mods was to replace the rear Showa shock with an Ohlins. I bought said Ohlins on ebay and it appeared to be in great condition. I got it serviced before fitting it and discovered that the pushrod had a chip in the chrome, meaning it was leaking oil, almost certainly caused by a stone thrown from the rear tyre. Luckily it was only around £50 for a new rod but it wouldn't have happened if the previous owner had a hugger fitted.
There’s a bit of a celebration being organised by our DAT friends at WDW24. More details to follow but I reckon it might be worth going for this alone!
