2v Superbike Project

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by andrewinuk, Mar 30, 2015.

  1. Plenty of pics please.!!!!

  2. Wow that is really going for it. I just put an 1100 Evo motor into an SS IE. It went in quite easily, just timing gear issues and the manifold needed raising about an inch. Got to admire your courage here for going down the total Frankenstein route.

Where did you find the picture of the blue bike? I would like to know more about that

  3. not sure about an S4R.... is it a 14 or 17cm width.... I'm still not sure what the best solution is for me in the long term but will go with the STD 848 with ohlins as I now have all the bits. longer term will try either a modified 999 arm or modified 1000ss arm to go light weight mono shock stylee.

  4. And can't recall exactly where the blue bike came from but think it was a search on google for f1 or tt1 images....

  5. Needing a good machine shop in London who can drill my cases..... the 2v bikes have a higher swingarm pivot than the SBKs, so i need to ovalize the case so the little bugger all fits together.

Anyone have machinist they trust to do work like this?

An example of the alignment needed can be seen on this old post from ducati.ms

  7. You need the pivot bore to be like the 999RS cases.

  8. The magic would be if someone had a template to make it a no risk operation :)

I'm sure it's easy to sort out, as long as i mark up the cases well!

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  9. All you need is clearance for the pivot pin.

  10. tick tick........ time is moving on but still not managed to find someone to take on the drilling job..... between classic racing in Australia and health problems, the machinists of the UK are looking thin on the ground :-/

Anyone have anymore suggestions in or near London?

  11. A dremel and a 10mm bolt not a 12mm one.

  12. Louigimoto also suggested a dremel, but the idea of me and power tools near my engine cases scared the bejesus out of me :)

  13. its a ten minute job. Even @bradders would struggle to fuck it up

  14. More Questions!

How much fuel will an 1100ds with cams, porting, open exhaust and airbox use in a typical 20 minute trackday session.... the 900ss with ST2 cams used about 3 liters.... will i get away with 3.5 or do i need 5 liters... size of the fuel tank will impact where it goes and if i have to make it my self :-/

5 Litre fits OK but not too much space for the trumpets and airbox :-/

    3.5 Litre

and yes, i probably will need a little more than tape to hold them in at some stage, before anyone asks :)

  15. my 2p: I'd give yourself the option to carry a little more fuel - Euro trackdays with open pit lanes, longer sessions on track, maybe a bit of racing etc or maybe even making the thing road legal in the future..and bear in mind it only weighs more if you put more in ;)
You've got me thinking about an evo or even a 1000DS for my project now.. !

  16. I was thinking along the same lines re road registering later on and needing more fuel.... however, the frame is Cat B, so there is no guarantee i can do that.... though some people seem to have managed it.

But i would probably just build a new tank to replace the dummy tank when i knew my fabrication skills were up to it :) Also trying to get this bike to be super light, so the less material the better.... i think!

  17. Another question..... which throttle body trumpet fits directly onto a 1*00ds 45mm ID throttle body to create as short an inlet length as possible? I was told that a 748 fits but it is way too big to just slip on.... see below. I am after something that fits without machining ideally as i have enough do to already :-/

  18. Have you spoken to Mark @ MADASL?

These are on my ST2 throttle bodies.

  19. You will need 5l, a 1000 will spend a lot of time at full throttle and how will the bike behave with, say, 1/2 l left when you are cornering? Before races I used to put 5l in my old 620 and would barely have 2l when I got back in (as per ACU regs)

If it were me, I'd be aiming at 7l just in case...

  20. some gratuitous mock up shots whilst i muck around getting my cases drilled.......

the fairing doesn't quite line up with the frame tubes but is pretty close
    [IMG]

and it will be a pretty skinny bike, just hoping the fairings are wide enough to offer good crash protection for the metal bits like the cases! the 900ss was perfect in this respect.
