nah it was a std 748R top....you can cut off the sides and mount a pair of those false sides, Which are perfect for the job, on dzus fasteners....which is what i did..
Bit of a slow week this week with regards the build physically/mechanically, but made huge leaps (people from this forum paid a huge part) with taking the right route towards getting the bike running correctly. I’ve a set of 998 throttle bodies and a carbon airbox coming my way in a few weeks, as soon as I have both I’ll get them fitted and get the bike over to a friend to replace the belts and carry out a full service. I did get the rear subframe re-fitted and the exhausts back on this week. I’m now just waiting on parts.
Loving that sign! Down pipes look awesome too. Have that nice 'race' finish to them......not too brightly polished. Keep er lit buddy
doddle mate if you can build the bike up you can do them. Theres a alright video on youtube from ca cycleworks only difference is I used a cam lock tool on the vertical cylinder.
Neither had I until last year. As long as you tension them to the correct tension and make sure you turn the tensioning pulley the correct way you’ll be grand. I, and a lot of others, got pointed here in the first instance and here’s another specifically for the 999 and buy the belts here http://www.exactuk.com/ from @Exige You can do it and save a whole load of money, you’ve done so much yourself already.
Thanks guys. I’ll give the videos a look and go from there. It’s something I’d like to give a go. As you say, it can’t be that difficult (famous last words and all that lol)
you only need to watch the 749/999 video mate as thats for your engine, with the bike how you've got it now you'll have them changed in no time and wonder why you never did them in the past.
Removed the old exhaust decals, which I fitted about 15 yrs ago. New decals courtesy of Pete from Pro Twins.
Still quite slow on the build. Taking the lower clamps to get machined tmw ready for some new forks. I’ve packed the clamps out with washers and tightened, to ensure the clamps stay circular when machined. Before I re fitted the oil breather tank, I removed all the old heat reflective tape, cleaned up and replaced with new. Also replaced the crank case breather hose. The original hose had gone very soft over the years and started to perish. I’ll hopefully have the carbon airbox and 998 throttle bodies by early next week. May even have the wheels back by then too. I’m aiming to have a rolling chassis by the end of the Christmas period. Looking forward to the next few stages Thanks again for all the help and advise. I’ve probably been driving a few people mad with all the questions
After having another look at the tank, and the heat reflective tape. I decided to redo it. Just wasn’t happy with it. So removed the tank and all the tape and started again. This is the end result. Now I know it’s not perfect and the likelihood of it ever being seen is pretty slim, but it didn’t sit right with me so had to be done again. This time, is come out 1000 times better. dropped the lower clamp off today. Should have it back within two weeks
