dont forget with the front switch there is a very tiny plastic plunger in the casting of the lever that pushes against the micro switch. you do get a new one if gou get the switch from Ducati
Jammy as indicated earlier, the switches just connect the two wires leading to/from each of them together, this allows 12v to pass to the rear light assembly. The earth is through the black wires from the rear light cluster into the rear loom which connects to a three way connector under the seat. To test the switch you just put a meter across the two wires from the switch and operate it, a beep on continuity (or low resistance) indicates a working switch when it is initiated. If you don't understand what is being posted it is easier for all if you say so.
