748, talk to me :)

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by fred11, Dec 6, 2013.

  1. Early models only had a Showa rear, from the photos which are not that detailed enough I would say it's a genuine early R. The price is high though, I have seen early ones go for a lot less.

  2. The thing is, there isn't even a picture of the frame plaque or the headstock numbering (which I assume even the early ones had?) I would say too much money.

Also.. those lower Ducati stickers HAVE to go, it's only worth good cash if it's completely original, you don't see many Jag E-types for sale with spoilers added!

  3. Called the dealer who says it a genuine r, I would obviously have that checked.

Yes it's too expensive. For me a 748r should be yellow so would pay premium over a red Ohlins one.. I think this should trade at less the 5k thought

  4. But will you remove those horrid stickers?

  5. I think it might piss the guy off if I just rock up and start peeling his nice stickers off

  6. Haha yeah, might

  7. The yellow 748r is very nice and looks genuine to me. Easiest way of telling is the airbox should be twice the size of a std 748. 2000 bikes did not have a plaque on the yolks.

    However it's overpriced IMHO.

  8. So what is the consensus on the going rate for one of these? Is a red Ohlins bike the 'most desirable' one still?

    Any sold recently?

  9. Personally I think it needs to be down nearer £5400, take the. other advert and show him what £500 more gets u... Blag it and say your tempted cause red is a more popular and everyone likes the ohlins ones...

  10. Earlier R's were not numbered I believe and this has been the subject before. I think you could get a a very good SPS for somewhat less.

  11. Its worth what you want to pay for it. I would guess the later ones with the plaque and Ohlins shock are worth a bit more though.

Personally though i cannot see how any 748R is worth more than £5k unless it is exceptional.

  12. Yes paying over 5k for a 748 given what's out there seems daft. Red 01 with online still for sale at 5k and a slabsided -02 went unsold on eBay with top bid at 4k in October.

Didn't buy anything today as I struggled to get hold of people. Keep getting drawn to the -97 sps is that stupid?

    Good problems to have :)

    Cheers!

  13. I went to look at the yellow 748 on Saturday. Looks to be in good condition, even the engine paint. He says it will come with the original exhaust and paddock stand and it will be serviced with new belts by G Tec. He's selling it on behalf of a client who, apparently lost interest when a friend sold his bike 3 years ago. Took a couple of photos don't know if they help; 20131221_141148.jpg 20131221_141211.jpg

  14. This looks very nice.

    Buy it.

  15. that R does look nice. i spent ages looking at 748R's and came to conclusion there was a mug tax added as people wanted top whack for generally tatty bikes when you got there. obviously if you can get one that is genuinely mint and dont get too badly ripped off then buy one, but dont discount the sps etc, slightly more realistic prices given the condition of the bikes and age.
one of the R's i saw needed a full service, had a very patchy history, didnt start due to faulty imobiliser and had flaking engine cases and corroded bolts, and 16k miles. price wouldnt budge below 5k so walked away.

  16. You guys like that 748 huh? :-D

even the 916SPS, the original awesomeness, doesn't even get a word in! :-D

  17. It does look nice but spoilt with the silly chav number plate and unnecessary Agip sticker, I'm surprised the dealer didn't put a full size plate back on and remove the sticker, it would have made it look more original. The sticker is probably hiding a nice 4" deep scratch from a boot!

  18. I like the sticker.

Numberplate is a bit chavvy, but then if you are going to have it above the exhausts to give it a mean clean back end, you don't have too much choice about its size. Regulation one would have to sit below, and a regulation UK plate is a monstrous bastard.

  19. Atleast put the sticker on straight, feck sake!

and the number plate is another 'each to their own'. If that's the worst the bike has to offer..

anyway.. 916 SPS anyone? Or this one is dead in the water?
