749 Strange Ecu / Cluster Problem

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Christian.miles, May 4, 2019.

  1. The ECU will not be coded. Can you get the info off the labels on your ECU. PM me the details plus your name/address.

  2. Hope this works.
@chrisw really great that you can try and help out.

  3. Fingers crossed Ricky, Chris is an absolute star, this could have cost a lot of money buying parts that would potentially be useless, really do appreciate the effort.

  4. Yes, just need to get to Post Office

  5. Thanks Chris, please don't go super out of your way on this, whenever you get chance is great, just wanted to be sure you received the details.

  6. All received and tested thanks @chrisw. Unfortunately no dice! The same problem appears, although it is happening more frequently now, not just when hot....

Do you mind if I keep hold of this for a few days to try to get hold of a dash to test. Obviously my stock ECU will not work.

I am now suspecting the top loom/harness. I have taken a look at the schematic and it seems that the 16 pin plug just connects to the dash. When testing the output voltage on the CAN pins the side of the loom that goes from the ECU to the connector shows no voltage at all unless I connect the 16 pin plug and test the pins at the dash side which then does show voltage but at the wrong voltage when the error is present. This seems like strange behaviour as nothing should change while the dash is not plugged in whether testing at the eco side or the dash side.

Anyway, I am continuing on what now seems to be a bit of an endeavour!

Anyone have a spare harness / dash (clutching at straws!!)
