whilst we are on the subject, in the meantime I use as a counter measure before fork fluid and seals are due a service...Fix Leaking Fork Seals With | SealMate.net
Will this also work for the leak prone Ohlins front forks on the 999. Is it with the Ohlins also just a issue of dirt in the seal?
They use it on dirt bikes which take an absolute pounding, more so than street bikes. I use it on my Ohlins as they do suffer from leaky seals, more so than the SHOWA forks I have found. For the price that it is I think it's worth while item, be surprised at how such a small hole/tear can leak i.e 0.10mm, So in the meantime I use it before getting new seals. I think dirt in seals is a major cause of leaks on forks, hence they use it on off-road motorcycles frequently.
Getting roughly back on topic, this bike won't have the serial number on the yokes as they're the race magnesium yokes. I believe that this is a bike that I looked closely at online early last year, when I was looking for a 749R. The pics I saw then (if indeed it is the same bike - the descriptions match well) showed what appeared to be an ex-race/track bike that had had the original fairings put back on - the bike underneath was distinctly less shiny. Mileage may not be genuine, for the same reasons. Having looked right across Europe at 749Rs, I came to the conclusion that there will be very few bikes with the race kit that haven't been raced. Which is OK if they've been serviced to match and haven't eaten too much kitty litter, but very much caveat emptor.
