749 749s Differences

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by bluey, Aug 8, 2015.

  1. Standard 749 doesn't.

  2. The stalling on ticker is often cited as being the throttle position sensor / TPS adjustment. If recently and fully serviced then this should not be an issue if it's also had its codes read and been set up.

  3. As Fire mentioned, the 749s has the same Showa forks but with a little bit of gold at the bottom (TiN treatment).

  4. The bike looks clean Bluey but i would be on the hunt for one that has a Termi system on it already, as you are going to want one pretty quickly.

  5. Buy what you like, everyone has a different opinion.

I'd agree though, you'll want a termi. Anything else is just down to taste.

I wanted the 999s with it having all the sparkly bits, but does it make a whole heap of difference on the road? Probably not..

If you're happy with the power it makes, take the 749. Personally I like the later models as I like the aesthetics more, just my 2p.

Full history and lots of receipts are probably more important. Have the fairings off and get a good look round it. Don't be put off by flaking engine paint, they (almost) all have it.

Make sure it starts quickly without labouring (exige will be along soon with a cable upgrade)

Oh and get an upgraded clutch cylinder, otherwise you'll have left arm cramp like you did at 14....;-)

  6. my
My standardish 999 has and headset too, what it doesn't have is Ohlins and radials. Still perfectly fine though, especially as it's been tweaked :)

  7. Thanks all. I had been on the hunt for one with an exhaust already fitted but nothing around at the moment. What other exhaust options are there other than a £million Termi?

  8. Can anyone identify this exhaust?

  9. Looks like a Termi or a standard with a carbon cover...

There's also the MIVV, which they do in the classic 748/916 style of two round/oval mounted together or the X-Cone with three cones... which is what was on mine when I got it.

(mine is an S but the RH fairing disagrees... after a small altercation with a grouse while "making progress")

  10. Yeah, 749 Series 1 has fixed geometry steering and foot rests. The 999S has the Öhlins whereas the 749S has the TiN Showa units (of which I have a pair of forks and rear shock going begging if any standard 749 owners want a cheap upgrade). I put 999S Öhlins on my 749S and those are not radially mounted Brembo models either.

I'd love a 999S or 999R but being honest with myself it's probably more bike than I can make use of on the roads. The 749S has enough liveliness about it, and my old RRX Blade has the extra grunt when I feel the need :)

  11. Stock can with a carbon cover.

That is probably the ugliest exhaust there is for the 999... :Yuck:

  13. Heh heh, I didn't choose it... and it works well enough and sounds alright. Different strokes for different folks... I actually bought a stock system for it recently and am just keeping an eye out for a number plate hangar / tail tidy. I want ultimately to get to a Termi and a Fleda LED rear but that's mucho cashola...

I'm pleased you all love it so much though, cheers guys! ;) :p

  14. Shame it's not got the original mirrors - they're an integral part of the design for me...

  15. Ah right, well spotted. I'll look into that.

  16. Another difference between mk1 and 2 is the nose is wider by 20mm and the mirrors are further out. I ride mk2 and struggle with rear view especially with gf on back. I wouldnt like them any narrower.

  17. You can pick the mirrors up on ebay if you keep an eye out. Bike looks clean enough otherwise but I'd hold out for a monoposto with Termi exhaust - there are plenty around.

    Well, maybe not plenty...!

  18. Deffo not plenty. I reckon lots of sellers are selling their termi exhaust separately. Tomorrow is when my seller is due to call me back so lets see what tomorrow brings.

Are the rears springs different between the one up and two up models?

  19. no mirrors, with termi and mono
