I agree with young johnby, took me a second to adjust but with the silver looks good. Makes me want an FE even more now!!
Glad you like it. It's a bit risky, and out of the traditional trend, but I love the FE color and this combination with bright orange draws attention to the gorgeus birdcage frame. By the way, the picture is of a real FE with a "photoshopped" frame color ;-)
I like the orange with silver - always thought the FE looked a bit bland as it comes. Good call! Question, I'm about to send my frame off to powder coat - how did you remove VIN plate? also, how did your mask headstock bearing surfaces and bolt threads?
Vin plate would be drill the rivets out, and for the head stock may be best to cut two pieces of ply with a hole saw to the right size and secure through with threaded bar, nuts and washers.
My VIN plate had only one rivet left. I just drilled the other one out. now it will rest forever inside the tube, but I don't feel it will be heard with all the vibrations that come "as stock" with this nice animal... regarding the bearing surfaces and bolt threads, the paint shop carefully masked all of them (very neat job) and everything is ok. just make sure you make it clear to your painter.
It's been a long time since my last post in July, and besides summer vacation and several trips I had to do, progress on my bike have been sparse. I had a flood in my basement, and works had to be interrupted for quite some time while the insurance was taking care (they are soooo slow) and some cleaning and painting had to be done In the meantime, some minor cosmetics where done: Rear shock was dismantled and overhauled Spring is now on the paintshop to be painted black, while the body of the shock was polished (to some exent) and will be kept in silver color rear sprocket also polished and rear hub painted and cleaned (lots of grease and dirt..) Also front rotors had to be fully overhauled, as they were previously painted by the former owner without taking care of the metal lines.. (pffff) And they were flooded as well (shit happens) Now they look much nicer after removing all paint, sanding and spraying again with heat-resistant paint Engine was fully painted in Black!!! (it will make the bright orange frame be more visible ) sanded, primed, and painted all by myself. Then I decied to remove valve covers and clutch and alternator covers to be sent to powdercoating in dark silver, and that gave me the opportunity to chech valve tolerances (they are ok) clutch status,.. almost new and alternator status. Also in very good condition a full set of gaskets and seals has been ordered and it's in its way. Finally I also received the refurbished yoke and tripe clamp.. this is before and this is after... after having installed it back to the frame (installing new bearings was a bit of a PIA but it did work right) Frame color is more vivid orange that it looks in the pictures (poor light and too much flash) and the yoke has been really well anodyzed and protected. I like it!! Also did some work with the rear caliper holding plate, and the chain (was in better condition than expected after a deep thorough cleaning) This is all for now. Next week I'm expecting all pieces sent to powdercoating (Wheels, Swingarm, engine covers and some other pieces) and once everything's back, I will begin reassembling. Mmm. almost forgot! thank you to all of you who posted a full list of all the bolts needed in this bike.. Now I have all the pieces ready.
Wow, thats looking very nice, interesting to see how that frame colour looks at the end, as mine has been done black i am all for non standard colours! Keep up the good work, its far shinier than mine. :Watching:

More powdercoated pieces came this week from the shop. Wheels, Swingarm, Sock sipring, valve covers and engine side plates. Still need to fix some o-ring sealing parts inside the clutch cover, but reassembling is near.. This is how the "new" rims look like. "The Devil's in the details".. And this is a before and after of the rear shock overhaul.. Before After... Things are mooving along... Cheers
