Hi all, Didn't want to leave the year slip away without posting some updates. It's been tough lately, as my wife has been diagnosed breast cancer and we are now focusing different priorities. Don't worry, she is fine and - though it's going to be a long process to heal - all doctors are optimist and she will overcome this issue and will be riding with me (hopefully in this bike) soon. As I said, minor advances have been made. Last parts came home from the powdercoating shop: and now I'm building back again.
Engine is almost complete (waiting for some seals to arrive to close the left side cover) and looks nice in black and silver: with some hand polished bits to add some color
Forks are also finished (fully overhauled and reanodyzed) and installed. This is a good picture to show how intense is the Orange Frame color (don't know why but my camera always shows a very pale orange, while in reality it is much brighter) and now I'm ready to beging rewiring the loom completely.... this is going to be veeeerry boooooring.... Started with the regulator... (one bit at a time) New cable sleve (you like it or not.. but i love the pattern )
Work will continue through all 2016!! Dear friends, enjoy this night in the best way possible!! (we spaniards will get drunk and sing loud) and let's continue talking about fast bikes, sexy ladies, and all that jazz during the incoming year. Cheers! Tom
Tom, sorry to hear about your wife, my own family has been hit by cancer more than once, hang in there, there always someone you can turn to for support. Regards the bike, its looking great, I really like what you have done with it. What kind of clips on do you have? I'm liking the look of them? Ian
Tom, Sorry to hear about your wife's troubles this year. Wishing you both all the best for the new year. You thread is great reading! Phil
Sorry to hear of your wife's troubles and I hope she can get through it quickly and safely. Your bike is coming along nicely, I can't wait to see the completed bike and colour scheme.
Thank you very much for your kind and supportive words . It will be a complicated year with all the quimiotherapy and all that hassle, but doctors are positive and she is tough and determined (Damm! It took me almost two years to convince her to let me have another bike :tonguewink She will overcome this. Ian, regarding the Clip-Ons, I'm a tall guy and was looking for lower bars than the stock ones to have a more comfortable ride. Besides, one of the stock ones was broken, so I decided to look for some suitable cheap options. I came across with this one in EBAY. they are CNC Alluminium machined and look good (I think it was something like 45 euros) and also included the "crappy" Rizoma like grips.
I think you may find you will have a problem using those clip-ons..........looking at the OEM ones in their lowest position (on my bike) they miss the dash panel lock to lock, but I doubt the ones you are considering will miss it.
Thanks I am looking for alternatives I am also v tall so may look at similar. Hope you dont have clearance issues on full lock
This shows OEM clip-ons on my 750 which is fitted with Showa forks.........you can see that the clip-on clamp can't go any lower (it could with the OEM Marzocchi forks).........but I reckon there is a potential clearance issue with either forks if the clip-on clamp projection is near the dash plastic.
It's been a long two months without posting, and this is just to keep the tread alive. Minor progress has been done: Finally!! today I have finished rebuilding the whole wiring harness... Everything has been refurbished from end to end New connectors where applicable, fully cleaned and degreased, new braided sleves, and some color code tags to avoid mistakes when putting all together back.. From end to end !! It's been the most boring task I've ever made. (.. uh! well no, changing all the bulbs in the house for new LED ones, was probably worse.) Nails broken, nerves busted and crimping tools overused... (and then you find you have just finished closing the connector, and you missed putting the shrinking tube... and there you go again.. :rage::rage: ) But now is done, and in the weeks to come, some more serious stuff will begin to be done. Hangers are on their way! and some neat touches on the sidestand this is all for now.. I warned it was going to be sloooooow
Finally the engine is finished!! Alternator cover had to be replaced due to original one having a big hole covered with putty that was discovered when sandblasting (tsk tsk) A new one was sought and found, blasted and powdercoated, and here is the final result.: So, NO EXCUSES! Let's bring her back to live!! Frame bolted back Front Wheel back in place mmm.. lovely. Now the rest is easy.. Design a new battery box, rewire the whole monster, change and rejet carbs, new brake lines, full fairing overhaul and painting,.. Some petrol, a suitable driving license... Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!"
