Yes you can blank it off, the oil feeds into completely seperate chambers in the base of the carbs so nothing will be affected by them not receiving oil and turning the warmer circuit to off will have no effect on the rest of the lubrication circuit, put a blank in the tap though to ensure you get no leaks. (Obviously blank at the oil cooler as well). I blanked the circuit off on my M900 and have never had carb icing, strangely on my 900ss, same engine, same carbs I do get carb icing!. PS. I made my own blanks by cutting the end of the pipes off, tapping and putting a set screw in with adhesive sealant.
You could of course, just turn the tap to OFF Alternatively you can find secondhand float bowls which don't have the tapping in them; or with a hex head screw in ones with the tapping. I had both as well as my heaters which worked fine.
Hi, I have tried the tap every which way, and the thing just does not stop flowing. My plan is to replace the oil cooler hose from crank case to oil cooler, so its all in one without the tap, and to cap the oil cooler outlet or return, which ever one you call it , and plug the float chambers. In the mean time I will look for float chambers without the circuit bosses . As I am a neat freak. But at least doing remedial work lets me ride my bike! Thanks for everyones help
Not a good idea.........you need two hoses......to and from the oil cooler. By the way, the float bowls won't leak fuel if you take the carb heaters off and don't plug the float bowl tappings..........
Yup got that. I was talking about caping the fuel heating circuit. As the left hand oil hoses aren’t in the system , I don’t have to touch it. thanks for making doubly sure I wasn’t being a dumb ass ! It’s just a new right hand oil cooler hose so I can get the tap joint out of the original set up.
Up date. The 750 is now alive and kicking ! I also put in a exact start cable kit. The bike is in a happy place now. Starts first time. I just need to tidy up all the wiring now and replace all the fuel hose , then she is off for a mot. Thanks for everyone’s help
