821. Handling , What Handling ?

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by Mr Tea, May 14, 2016.

  1. So are you hitting toes and pegs regularly?

It's obviously not going to have the clearance of a sports bike, I guess you already figured this out?

And the front end can respond badly with a good shake over bumps. Allegedly this is 'super motard' style geometry and cannot be fixed. Just gotta hold on!

  2. With in reason , yes . Any bend taken with a little aggression means toes dragged on the floor unless absolutely right up out the way , then the pegs are just starting to touch down.
I'm more on my guard on left handers as that's centre stand territory and that'll touch down with ease.
I say again, I'm no hero so not trying to make myself look like one .
I find it hard to find a good style of riding to . I'm no hang off merchant but would prefer that style . In the hyper with the wide bars I feel that's what I should be doing on speeds over , say 60 ish. Under that I feel I want to sort of chuck it around between my legs. The wide bars make it pretty alien to hang off slightly over 60 .
To be honest, I'm all at sea and not really enjoying it. It's like a confused bike that doesn't know what it wants.
I'm happy to spend on the suspension if that will sort it but if it's always going to confuse me then I'm off to find a sports bike again !

  3. Tough one... If you go through suspension route it's gonna have to be jacked up... And if you do... You're into sp territory....

  5. Thanks CS.
I test rode a 939 and it was way better than mine.
What ever , I'm not giving up hence th exact I've just won a racing seat in eBay for £150 . Reading around this will enable me to move around on the bike more.

    Onwards !

  6. I got the racing seat for that reason.
I hang off and get my knee down. I have to hang off a little more than my other bike otherwise yes pegs scrap before knee gets there.

The wide bars took some getting used to when I first started knee downing on in.

My hyper doesn't have a centre stand. Why does yours?!

  7. I think the hyperstrada does... I'd say loose it...

  8. So this is a hyper strada then?

  9. Think so... Hence my suggestion.... If you start throwing money at changing it into an sp... You may as well get an sp... You get the wheels then as well..

  10. Had my hyper on track a few times now, it's also the low version. I usually remove the center stand for the track. I also wind up the rear pre-load to max. I can get pegs and rear brake lever to scrape if pushing really hard. On the road I haven't had anything scrape yet and that's pushing. I'm 11.5 stone.
Fitted an Ohlins steering damper to help the front.

  11. Mentalist - any pics of the damper fitted?

So yours is a hyperstrada also?

  12. Have we seen shots of your tyres yet? As you must be right on or off the edge to be dragging everthing evreywhere. And thats how ABS works, be thanksful you have it if you grab a big handful mid corner!! Be even more thanful it works!

  14. No, this is the thing.
I looked at an sp, well looked at buying on but didn't want the full aspect. I wanted the strada on the grounds that is was almost a Hypermotard , but with a little more sensible day to day. I test rode a motard and lived it.
Fast forward and I bought the Strada. Suspension is the same , just a couple of minor differences.
    So.
    Tyres.
Not not to the edge and in truth hardly marked. The Bridgestones are more miles than grip and after 600 miles not really scuffed. I'll be looking at changing those to Michelin power 3's .
    I'm 16 , actually with full gear nearer 17 stone and 6ft3.

Took this from MCN review of the hyperstrada. So turning up the preload sorts it out?

  16. Yep I'd start with setting the rear sag, sound slike its just sitting way too low in the stroke and with soft setting being compounded

May be worth taking it somewhere

  17. I'm 13 stone and 6ft3 and don't have any issues. Raise your preload and rebound and see how it is. Might completely sort it.

Oh and bin that centre stand.

  18. Mine came from the dealer with the lowest pre-load set!! I wound it all the way in, can't remember how many turns to get full pre-load but its a lot.

  19. I've already turned it up 20 clicks.
No, I've not played with the rebound yet as I always do suspension adjustments one at a time.

    We'll have another bash tomorrow
