848 Evo - First Ride

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by redsail, May 17, 2013.

  1. grip the tank with your knees and take the weight off your arms mate...compared to lots of other Dukes the 848 offers tourer comfort!!

  2. You're kidding me! I can't imagine a more extreme riding position. Been trying different things and gripping the tank helped, I can understand why some people put pads there for more grip. I think I need to carry a bit more weight on the pegs too. The other thing is how far forward to sit, it seems more comfortable sitting as forward as possible so I can rest my ribs on the tank but a bit worried I may be upsetting the weight distribution.

  3. Loosen your grip on the bars and lower your elbows and your wrist pain will be no more !

  4. ^ Wot he said...:upyeah:

  5. I will try that today! (three days in a row, I must be a masochist or something)

  6. Alternatively have the veins taken out of your legs and put in your forearms that will also work

  7. You'll soon get used to it. I've done over 200 miles today and I'm as fresh as a daisy :upyeah:

  8. Great ride yesterday. Thanks for the tips it's really helped and I feel I am actually making progresss now. :upyeah: Had much less pain in the wrists and generally felt more in tune with the bike. I started moving about in the saddle rather than sitting there like a sack of spuds. Weight is off the bars and seat and on the pegs instead. I'm hardly racing but moving your arse and upper body to one side of the bike really does work. I felt a bit of a dick at first cause I'm hardly racing but it made a big difference - the bike seems to glide more easily through corners, especially faster ones.

Thing is I took a wrong turn and ended up almost greenlaning it! Keeping the bike out of the cow shit and on an 8 inch wide strip of gravel-free tarmac for about a mile and a half certainly helps to focus the mind

  9. A bit like Multistrada, monster, hypermotard, diavel, or you could go back further... Paso, pantah, ST2/3/4 to name a few..

  10. Be thankful you got an 848, not a 748. I recall my 748 being so much harder on the wrists than the 848 is. Fantastic bike, enjoy it! :upyeah:

  11. Wow the 848 sounds fantastic! I didn't find my old 748 too hard on the wrists, but after riding the 888 for a week solid I was in agony, all my friends were buying shares in paracetamol and ibuprofen !!

  12. It certainly is Antonio :) Fifth day yesterday on it and my wrists didn't ache, hurrah! The rear wheel has a lost traction a couple of times in odd situations though, just very minor slides but its a bit of a concern, so will be seeing to the rear shock shortly.

  13. No mate...not the shock. It's that riding style you have adopted on the pegs with your ass in the air. Super bike rider in the making.

Glad you are enjoying it. My new 848 arrives Friday. More than a little excited :)

Good videos on you tube for riding positions take a look at this one for example

  14. Moved to Superbike

  15. Heh, awsome. Looks like I've been riding a bit of a ringer :( bike going back to dealers. Half wish I'd bought new now, but maybe getting a Corse to replace it. Bet you can't wait for Friday, you'll love your new 848!

  16. Oh why? Whats up with it?
