848 848 Evo Vs S1000rr

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Fastmonkey, May 26, 2014.

  1. My housemate has the 1000RR. Took it out yesterday as he is trying to put me off idea of 1098S. I have to say it is a missile but just typically German. Does everything you expect and is mind blowing quick and I've never ridden a bike with a quick shifter
But it has no soul for me!! A 1098 on idle clutch rattling and the bark of a twin just does it for me. I also have to agree I wouldn't be sneaking into garage for a cheeky look at the BM.

  2. I wonder if Ducati buy their bolts and fasteners from the same company?

I may be wrong but this may be the first bmw s1000rr to win an international race.

  5. Looking good Davy. The colour suits the bike well :)

The HP4 uses an updated shift assist (it's not a quick shifter) which is less strain on the gearbox. Has a more positive shift etc.

The factory WSB team (last year) were changing star selector shafts after every outing. Free practise, practise, qually, race 1, race 2. It's suggested if you are track day riding etc, the star selector shaft needs replacing at the very least twice a year. More if the bike is used frequently.

Iv not heard of May HP4s going pop but I'm sure there are a few. The S1000RR's in general have such finely tuned engines that the smallest thing can make it poop it's pants.. I certainly wouldn't want to own one out of the warranty period. My new engine inc labour and inc vat was £15,000!!!! The bike cost me £11,000...... Why they didn't just give me a new bike, I don't know lol

  6. I didn't realise there would be so much S1000rr chat :)

Rode it to work today and you know what struck me most today was the fuelling and the throttle response, it's as close to perfection as I can imagine and that actually makes the bike so much easier to ride confidentially, safer and well on the road.

Felt very confident on the mismatched wet and dry surfaces as well, in sport mode with the T/C safety net.

    848 for track
    S1000rr for road

    I'm sold.

  8. @idrinkbeer Loving that race bike.

Dropped it back last night and road the 848 back home about 25 miles. First thing I noticed was how hard the seat was ! and the differences in engine characteristics and how much you had to work the gearbox to build anything like the speed ! Oh and the noise, how great do twins sound on open pipes !

But it was still great fun harder suspended and I missed the throttle response (and the heated grips! ) but I could listen to Ducati tunes all day........... !

I still want an S1000rr as a dedicated road bike and keep the 848 for track use but that all depends on me selling some other toys first !

  9. Well, i've had the pleasure of the S1000rr after my 1098s and i have to say, the 848 EvoSE I've now got covers my needs perfectly! I loved the BMW yet its a personal choice after all...:)

  10. All very true !! :upyeah:

  11. Why not get the 848 remapped? I hear Steve at Moto Rapido can do amazing things to them for a few hundred quid.....just speak to Roy at Snells. Steve tuned his 848 Evo SE and apparently its tip top now......tempted myself!
