In August 2010, Ducati announced the 848 Evo, as the evolution of the model. The bike featured small revisions such as a black swingarm, Mono-block Brembo brake calipers, steering damper mount as well as some very minor engine revisions.
If all standard 848's are the same as the one I rode, then I wouldn't be interested in paying more for an evo.
hi waynem. i was in your position not so long since. i really wanted a 1098s at first but after reading up, thought the 848 would be better suited. i held off buying for nearly 6 months to get enough brass together for 1. i got so desperate waiting that i considered a 996 but knew that everytime i saw an 848 go by, i'd have been kicking myself. well glad i held on for the 848. well worth it!
by the way, i went to somanybikes in manchester to see their 1098s. seem like decent people but there is an extra £100 on top of the sale price to pay. bike handling fees...they offer 0% finance with half paid up front.
Thanks bettes - I have a feeling that's what I'll end up doing. If we didn't have to worry about nursery fees we'd be almost £800 better off a month! As much as I'm looking at most of the older Ducati range as potential fillers,I know I won't be happy unless I get an 848.
There is a really nice White 848 for sale at Snells Ducati in Hampshire. Worth a look, although it might be a bit pricey, you never know. I like the 996 also, but there similar money to entry 848's and if you look objectively at it, the 848 is more modern, better brakes, more reliable (in theory) and much lighter. Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing the 996, but if the new bikes weren't a step forward then Ducati aren't doing something they should be, as every other manufacturer is improving.
Could possibly be the one I tested? Awesome machine. I'm guessing the 848 would be a big step forward over their older machines? With only having spent time on the 848 I can't comment on any of the others, but I genuinely can't believe anything (in my price range at least) would come close to the motorcycle perfection that I felt for the very quick hour I was on it?!
Ah sorry mate, lost my bearings as to which one u tried. I still smile every time I get the throttle wound open out of a corner, the 1098 must be an animal!
The 848 sounds amazing regardless of the revs, whether bimbling along or accelerating hard! My face ached by the time I took the bike back as I was smiling so hard for so long. I may have screamed "WOOO HOOOOOOO!!!" in my helmet several times!
Oh, and I may have a buyer for my bike. No idea how much I'll get yet, but have priced it high and can always work down! Very excited!!!
Cheers Blanco. I saw this one the other day and spoke to Rapido. They didn't offer what I wanted for my part ex, and I think he quoted an extra £500 for the 12 month Ducati warranty, otherwise it would be the standard 3 months. It's a shame as they seem to have a great following on this forum.
You can get warranty direct on line which seems as good as the ducati one (from posts on here) and far cheaper
Does the Ducati warranty include breakdown? The bike at Snells comes with 12 months warranty. I prefer the idea of having a manufacturers warranty rather than a third party company, but I'll check out Warranty Direct. Other than the standard 3 month warranty, what are the opinions of getting an extended warranty? I've never worried much about it before, but after 18 months with a BMW warranty, during which I had a bad case of piston slap and the engine casing and pistons were replaced (over £3500 worth) I like the sound of the Ducati warranty, at least for the first 12 months anyway.
