848 848 Power

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by slinky848, Feb 17, 2017.

  1. Noise has a lot to do with it too. But a big twin is incredibly deceptively fast. :upyeah:

  2. er6f is a twin too mind,

    ive never owned a 4

no point, cant beat twin sound

  3. It could be the way the power is delivered. The ER6 may be "brutal" and you feel like your being thrown off the back at 60mph, with the 848 being "smooth" you don't feel the acceleration in the same way, but, you will be going much faster within the same distance.

I had a 749s, and a favourite set of bends. I could come out of the last bend, high in the revs, bike shaking and vibrating. I felt like a GP rider. Exit speed at last corner was 110mph.

I then had a 999r Fila. Same set of bends, and the bike felt lazy, too smooth, no feeling of speed. Exit speed at the last corner 130mph.

Feeling quick, and being quick is two very different things.

  4. if so kind of a shame in a way,

on one hand im less likly to ride crazy, on the other hand i kind of liked my er6 for it trying to kill me under full throttle xD

i mean, the bike had slip on no baffles, 1tooth less in the rear, and ducatis ecu upgrade.
    it sounded like an animal

i love the bike still, just starting very slightly to feel more pro/all show

    compared to a hooligan

  5. Well, you could f*ck up the fuelling do it feels like a power band. Be a dog to ride 90% of the time and be slower, but will feel like a snarling animal ;)

Or do what Ricky suggested: a 1098 will tear your arms out

  6. what if i get the 1098 and its still just, faster but doesnt quite feel what im looking for,

nah i live my 848, shes beautiful, comfortable, a pleasure to ride, clutch is kinda heavy but ill get used to it in a few days full of riding.

dont think i need to go up a bike suze yet.

i know thats confusing for me to say after my comments here

  7. I've only ever had Termi's and the DP performance ecu on my bike and it pulls like a train. I wonder if you have a stock ecu which will be more emissions friendly and mean the exhaust valve is closing at certain revs. I have seen several people comment on noticeable differences when they get the valve disabled.

I had an er6 as a loan bike when my Aprilia Rsv was being serviced and if that feels strong compared to the 848 then something is wrong big time. I rode the er6 in the wet and you could ring it's neck no problem even on wet roads. Wouldn't dare tap the throttle the same way on the 848 in the wet.

  8. TBH, one of the reasons I only had the 959 a few months is because it felt so flat compared to my 848. The 848 isn't exactly a pussycat, and makes plenty of the right noises, so I find it hard to believe anyone would find one slow or particularly smooth. There has to be something wrong....

  9. Harley perhaps???

  10. As a couple of guys have said on here Big twins often feel lazy and don't feel as fast as you are actually going.... people often feel them to be lazy and less frenetic (if that makes any sense) as you ride the gobs of torque through the rev range rather than wringing its neck like a iL4, (Pani's aside).. riding a Twin and an iL4 are very different things and it will take you time to adjust.. I know when I rode my first Ducati I was like WTF.....

  11. You can wright books (or online pages) about a personal feeling, it's for everybody different.
Fact is that a 2 cyl bike feels slower, but isn't always dow...
The only way to find out is pulling away side by side against an other 848 from someone who is convinced his bike is OK.
If you keep seeing his ass, there is someting wrong with you or your bike

Edit: maybe a hint: After the first 1000km my Streetfighter has bin "released" from a metal pin that was restricting the throttle, look at the point where the thottle cable comes to an end ;)

  12. There is an electronic 'safety' limiter. My 58 plate 848 had it.

Try doing to harsh a racing start and the thing just bucks and goes nowhere. Dealer knew about it but couldn't turn it off.

  13. Would an 848 be a quicker bike on the track compared to my 996SPS?

  14. Depends who's riding it ;)

Your bike will have a wedge more torque and potentially be down a little on power at top end if yours is standard. But yours is easy to work on if needed: the 848 isn't in comparison. :upyeah:

  15. Not mutch of a different I would say...

  16. The 848 is quite a bit lighter though?

  17. Only if you mess with it. My mate has a 748 hybrid that comes in at just over 150kg wet with mag arm, wheels, yokes etc. Standard 848 isn't too bad but still quite heavy. Having ridden and owned an SPS and a 848, if the 848 were quicker it's because you can just thrash it without too much fear. The SPS used to scare the shit out of me. :)

  18. Both my 996 and 999 are deceptively fast. My SRAD feels quicker but isn't. Overtaking on A/B roads is where you notice the extra speed. The SRAD is almost dangerous as it hangs me out to dry but on the 999 i'm round the mobile chicane and long gone.

Try an RGV250, that'll feel quick! (but won't be).

  19. I've read that the 848 frame is 20kgs lighter than the 748 one.

Is the 848 more agile? The SPS isn't too quick steering.

  20. just went out for another blast to show the guys at work,

at note at no point am i saying its slow or slower,

today it did get my adrenaline going but only at 9k revs upwards at like 70mph plus.

i think it seems to have its power more linear, and it doesnt run out of umph at 100mph like the er6 did.

did 150on a dual carrageway. i let go of the throttle (bottled it) at that point.

it felt faster than yesturday [emoji23] but still not bite my arm off g forces.

im starting to wonder if im subconciously not full throttling it until further up the rev range as a respect for the torque in the bike.

but i mean the er6 had like 60lbs if torque or somthing which isnt nothing.

the 848 is 70ish right? at peak
