Hi, thought it would be good to close this one down, new arm is fitted and so finally is the shock, took a matter of minutes with the wife's help to set the sag that took about 12mm of preload to achieve 35mm. A few rides out and some tweaking and I am so happy I made the effort, the bike actually soaks up the road instead of feeling like I was bouncing about on top of it.. A few fears I had about the standard shock were unfounded, for my riding abilities anyway, rebound was reported as too severe by some but I am a few clicks away from fully out, compression is slightly under half way out and the bike rides much more confidently. While stripping the rear out most of the bolts and spindles were shy of grease and needed unnecessary beating to remove but all cleaned up nicely and are now well greased for the future.. Thanks again for your input, especially Sev, I still can't get the bottom shock bolt out, has been heated and beaten and finally the head went on the bolt so will need drilling out one day. the new bolt is stainless and well doused in water proof marine grease that generally tends to keep the water out..
