Luckily I haven't needed an mot for a while, either coz my bike is less than 3 yrs old or I have sold them before its due ;-)
Pipes have to be deemed as "original fitment" or carry the CE mark do they not? How you describe "original fitment" is a wee bit subjective though. This is my understanding anyway. I don't even remember if my last bike was ever started during it's 3 MoT tests, and I stood and watched the tests right beside me. I always put the stock pipe back on for MoT though so the exhaust was never even mentioned. Just to add, I don't think they can fail it for being "too noisy" unless they test it to the approved standards, which I believe is a drive-by at a certain distance away with the bike at a certain point in the rev range. They can't / don't test that as part of the MoT so it surely must just be down to the marking on the can and the testers discretion. (?)
