You must reflect many peoples thoughts Henk, I donated once and will be happy to do it again but we are powerless without contact. The only person that someone might be able to contact is one moderator “Mr R” (ex of here) who is West Country direction.
Chris - I have been trying various routes to get in contact with the admin, but as the site is out of action, we need to start seeing if anyone has a personal connection with the guy. The problem is, that we all used to tag people through the site and there isn't a directory available right now, apart from what is locked in the site itself. Many 851 and 888 owners are tying to get in touch.
I have seen that the subscription for the domain ended on the 14th April 2020, and have contacted the Registrar for domain to see if they can put me in touch with the administrator of the site. I am willing to take on the running of this site, but need someone to make the introduction. The 851 and 888 community rallied round last time to fund the ongoing costs, so it sounds like this is a major burden for the current admin for the site and I can certainly help.
They certainly are, no ideas @ducati dad ? The scrambled information I found said the domain (?) was last in Germany?
I thought the site was American based and run.. apart from that, I've no idea. Sure do miss it tho', plenty of info and knowhow on there...
Right I've just re-joined this forum after a long break, the reasons that I left haven't changed so I wont be hanging around for very long... This is for all the 851/888 fans and members of that forum. The forum didn't die because it wasn't full of drivel/rubbish and endless posts by a clique who generally f'ck up many interesting threads. Jimmy the site owner only started the 851/888 Forum because he couldn't find the right info' about how to sort out his own bike, the site took off from there and was one of the best focused forums out there. Several years back I along with a few others were asked to become mod's and to possibly take over the forum if Jimmy decided he'd had enough. The forum had been so successful that we only ever banned one member and he was such a wanker that when he came back under a different name he was finally banned again after showing his true colours. In the past the site has gone down until Jimmy caught up with his E-Mails, but this time it seems different. He's become completely uncontactable, hopefully he hasn't passed away after all these are strange times for us all. I've contacted as many forum members as I can and nobody has been able to contact Jimmy. If I could I would take over the running of the site, but without being able to contact Jimmy how could I do that? I gave up work last summer and don't draw a pension or any benefits, at the same time I support a family of 4 adults, so I'm not made of money as I have a serious Motorcycle habit inc' 3 Ducati's. There's been close to 20 years of top line info' posted on that forum and it's a great loss to any 851/888 owner or potential one, I personally posted over 5,000 times, all of it trying to help fellow members, no snide or cleaver Dick posts. When I had my '92 851/916cc written off from under me, forum members from all over the world sent me parts FOC to get me back on the road as a thankyou for my help. I personally wouldn't want the 851/888 Forum to become part of this forum, because there'd be no way of keeping the drivel posting clique off of that part of the forum. Any suggestions as to how I can save the 851/888 Forum would be helpful/gratefully received, but the drivel posters can do one as far as I'm concerned. Steve R The artist formally known as Mr R.
If the owner of the site won't contact you to sell it to you then there isn't a lot you can do. There also would be no way I believe for any other site to move stuff across again without the site owners permission.
This thread is for sorting out the 851/888 forum. I think only posts that help the cause should be posted and any animosity put aside, to help achieve that.
Pity it was started by the wonderful 888 forum member but I full agree @Ducbird can you delete any posts that do not help, and have the bait post amended by the author please?
I've been in contact with Marvin and he's contacted Mark T, but for all their efforts there's been no response. I'm hoping for the best but fear the worst re Jimmy.
Please keep this thread on topic. Seems a shame to argue about the past when what seems like a huge repository of info could be gone forever - unless we can work out how to save it.
